We have been discussing evangelism in 2025 and what that looks like. We have heard from our peers and we have studied scripture to see how Gods word instructs us to make disciples and how we are to carry ourselves as followers of Christ Jesus.
I want to close this series with a final look at 1 Peter 3:8–18 “Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing. For “Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit; let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when…”
as Peter addresses the church during a time of persecution in Rome and it may not have exactly been physical all the time but spiritual abuse. They might have been treated unfairly because of their faith in Christ.
This letter to the Church encourages us to bring glory to God in a hostile world.
Verse 8, Says to be of one mind and that mind is the mind of Christ. We are to look at all things through the lense of Christ.
Verse 9, Nearly impossible with out the Spirit of God in our life. The world today preaches retaliate and “ eye for an eye” but Gods word clearly says to “pay them back with a blessing”.
Verse 11, TO search for peace and work to maintain it. IT do’s not say get even or get revenge
Verse 14, How many of you know that even when we do things right and even when we treat people with love that people can still do harmful things or say harmful things to us.
Verse 15 , As we close our evangelism series id like you to remember this verse and how Peter instructs the church to share about Jesus when asked or given the opportunity . “ do this in a gentle and respectful way”
