Our Sin Had Eternal Ramifications

Eph 2:1-3
We were present in a spiritual death. We were not alive to the work of the Lord, but were dead to his love and care for us
Prince of the power of the air
Satan and his dominion
Prince is not king and does not usurp the king, but still has power
Spirit that is now at work in the sons.. passions of our flesh
We were given to just succumb to every desire we have
We had no knowledge of their evil nature as we did not know what was good
Carrying out the desires of the body and the mind
More of the same
We were by nature children of wrath
We were born into a broken world
Yet if left up to our own devices, with no intervention, we would succumb to the evil that the world has put out
Nature
WIth no prompting or guidance, this is the natural disposition of our hearts
We would not have been any different from the rest of the world

Christ Brought Us Back To Life

Eph 2:4-8
But God
anytime that phrase is in scripture pay attention
Even though XYZ occurred, God’s response to this was Q
Being rich in mercy even when we were dead in our trespasses
It wasn’t that we finally figured it out or finally got it together
Rom 5:8
God stepped into our brokenness and saved us in our spiritual death
We were made alive together with christ
The word here means to give life
Paul is using imagery to show we were dead, and now we have been breathed back to life
By grace we have been saved and seated with him in the heavenly places
Don’t miss this here. We were made alive but we were not righteous yet. God not only forgives sins, but christs righteousness is given onto us
The greatest transaction in the history of mankind

Our Obedience is the fruit of our faith, not the root of it

Eph 2:9-10
We have no place in earning our faith
If we understand sin, we understand the gravity of our depravity
The most holy person you can think of, is a broken and sinful being. That is our very nature.
This story cannot be one we passively sit on. It has to radically infiltrate every aspect
