Bible Impact Lesson - 7:15-7:30
There’s lots of stories in the Bible that show us about God’s power. Last week we talked about David and Goliath, and there’s so many more stories than that. The 10 plagues in Egypt, Joshua and the walls of Jericho, Gideon and his 300 soldiers, and Samson with the jawbone. When we think of stories about the power of God, the life of Joseph isnt what comes to mind first.
Joseph’s brothers became jealous and sinned when they decided to get rid of him. Joseph was sold as a slave. Most likely the brothers that sold him were absolutely certain that he would soon die. They never ever ever would’ve expected to see Joseph in second command of all Egpyt! Joseph’s brothers made their way to Egypt in time of famine, and found Joseph in his seat of power when they needed food. That’s amazing! Joseph went from zero to hero, and it’s all because of our powerful God.
God is omnipotent (anyone remember what that means?) and He is all knowing. He brought all things together for His glory the good of Jeseph’s life. Joseph faced some awful situations in his life, but God was at work during these times. Like Job in the Old Testament, Joseph didn’t know exactly why God was doing what He was doing, but in the end, Joseph told this to his brothers...
5 Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.
6 For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest.
7 And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.
8 So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.
Joseph recognized God’s power! God placed Joseph in Egypt so that he would save thousands of lives, including his own family.
We often ask in our hearts, “Why are you doing this to me, God?” We can’t possibly see the whole picture, but God can. Lots of things in your life seems difficult right now; I mean, you’re in school right now, what could be worse?!! But God still has a plan for your life. He is omnipotent and a loving God. God is a “mighty, powerful God” and will always make everything work out for His glory and our good. What may not feel like is a good thing, God will show us in the end how it was good.
We need to remember that God always loves us, and in His wise plan, He uses easy and hard times to shape us the way He wants us to be. God was powerful in Joseph’s life, and He is powerful in yours too.
