What does each of these mean in a Christian context.
What does each of these mean in a Christian context.
Passover, Reminds us every year that:
just like the Israelites had to be judged and suffer the same plague of death, a lamb was sacrieficed in their place.
Like this lamd, Jesus dies instead of us.
Middle Matzah is broken and half of it is hidden for a while.
First Fruits of the dead.
Weeks pass and Jesus Ascends to heaven and 50 days in gives us the Holy Spirit.
But, he gives us a promise, that he will return. What will this return look like.
Trumpets will sound and the world will darken. The Lord’s Second Coming will be accompanied by the sound of a trumpet
16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
Just as the shofar called the Jewish nation to turn their attention to the Lord and ready themselves for the Day of Atonement, so will the “trump of God” call us to heaven and warn the world of coming judgment.
Atonement, meet with Jesus and become one with him. At one ment.
17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
Tabernacles
16 And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.
What happens if we do not keep the feasts of Tabernacles?
17 And it shall be that whichever of the families of the earth do not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, on them there will be no rain. 18 If the family of Egypt will not come up and enter in, they shall have no rain; they shall receive the plague with which the Lord strikes the nations who do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.
This is for the Jews, not for us Christians?
This is for the Jews, not for us Christians?
Passover and Unleavened bread, which includes First Fruits.
1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘The feasts of the Lord, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, these are My feasts.
They are not Jewish festivals, they are God’s festivals. As we saw in Zacharia, they will apply to everyone when he returns, even those who don’t want to.
Furthermore, the message was for the Isrealites, but we are also children of Abraham (Israel’s Grandfather) because we believe in Jesus and we have put him on into our body.
26 For all of you are God’s children through faith in the Messiah Jesus. 27 Indeed, all of you who were baptized into the Messiah have clothed yourselves with the Messiah. 28 Because all of you are one in the Messiah Jesus, a person is no longer a Jew or a Greek, a slave or a free person, a male or a female. 29 And if you belong to the Messiah, then you are Abraham’s descendants indeed, and heirs according to the promise.
When we are baptised and take his His blood is part of our blood when we take communion, we become part of this Family of Israel. There is not Jew nor Gentile, we are all Brother’s and Sisters.
8 This means that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as offspring.
So, what is spoken to the Children of Israel, is also spoken to us.
14 ‘So this day shall be to you a memorial; and you shall keep it as a feast to the Lord throughout your generations. You shall keep it as a feast by an everlasting ordinance.
Tabernacles
41 You shall keep it as a feast to the Lord for seven days in the year. It shall be a statute forever in your generations. You shall celebrate it in the seventh month.
Not just before Jesus returns, but after as well.
16 And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.
So, Jesus observed the Festival while he was here. He will observice it when he returns. Why do we not observe it while he is away?
Jesus made it clear that these Laws apply. They are an everlasting ordinance and a statute forever. They are permanent commandments.
17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
17 So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”
We do not have enough time to discuss all the Festivals, but we will focus on the one we are celebrating this week.
23 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 24 “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. 25 You shall do no customary work on it; and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord.’ ”

Trumpets is a call to Rest and Remember. It happens 10 days before the Day of Atonement, which is the Holiest day of the Year, coming on 3 October this year.
Rest like on Sabbath on the Day.
For the remaining 10 days
Remember that Jesus and Judgment are coming. When we have to account.
Reflect on our sins, where we missed the mark or hurt others.
Reconciliation requires us, so that we be forgiven, also forgive others.
To Repent of our sins and ask for forgiveness.
Apologise
Make Amends
Ask for Forgiveness.
Abstain, try Righteousness for the 10 days.
Reunion, and spend time with Family. Convocations.
Pray daily.
But, Bible aside, I want you to close your eyes and Imagine. Imagine what kind of world we would have if we all dedicated
just 10 days to doing the right thing every year.
10 days to forgive and repent.
10 days to remember that God is great and real. And his son is coming again for us.
Open your eyes.
That Vision needs to start somewhere. If you would like to see such a world, It starts with the sounding of a trumpet on 25 September this year. It starts with you.
Amen.
