Introduction:
Have you ever noticed that some of the greatest moments in life begin with one small word, yes? Think about it. A man says yes at the altar, and a new family begins. A soldier says yes to his call of duty, and history is changed. A young person says yes to an opportunity, and their entire future shifts.
In the same way, the story of the Bible is filled with men who were willing to say yes to God. And because of their willingness, history itself was changed.
Take Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus. He was an ordinary carpenter with an ordinary life planned out—until suddenly he faced a decision he never imagined. Mary was pregnant, and the child wasn’t his. His reputation, his future, even his peace of mind were on the line. But in the middle of his confusion, God spoke. And Joseph said yes.
Then think of Paul. He was the opposite of Joseph in so many ways—educated, powerful, and determined. But he was headed in the wrong direction, breathing threats against the church, until Jesus stopped him on the Damascus road. In that moment, Paul could have clung to his pride, but instead he asked, ‘Lord, what do You want me to do?’ From then on, his life was one long yes to God.
Two very different men. One quiet and unnoticed, the other bold and world-changing. But both had this in common: they were willing. And today, God is still looking for men—new believers, seasoned pastors, fathers, sons—who will do the same. Not perfect men. Not the strongest or the most talented. But willing men who will listen, obey, and sacrifice when God calls.
That’s what we’re going to talk about today: what it means to be a willing man, ready to say yes to God.
Point 1 – A Willing Man Listens to God’s Voice:
Scripture: Matthew 1:20; Acts 9:4–6 “And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” And he said, “Who are you, Lord?” And he said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. But rise and enter the city, and you will be told what you are to do.”
• Paul was riding high in pride and power, until a bright light stopped him in his tracks. He heard the voice of Jesus: “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?”
• A willing man starts by opening his ears. You can’t say yes if you’re not listening.
Application:
• To pastors: Sometimes ministry gets so busy that we stop listening. Don’t let your calling drown out the Caller.
• To new believers: You may not understand everything yet, but learn early that God speaks through His Word and His Spirit—be ready to listen.
