Here Jesus is showing a zeal for God’s how something predicted in scripture. Psalm 69:9.
This is something that the disciples would later realize John 2:17 “His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for your house will consume me.””
This may be a vague reference to Malachi 3:1-3.
Jesus’ actions also foreshadow the coming judgment on the temple system, which would culminate in its destruction in 70 AD.
His cleansing of the temple is a messianic act—asserting His authority over worship and signaling the arrival of a new covenant.
