What touched me?
What touched me?
This was an interesting course. However, I was kind of struggling with which section really touched me in this training. There is a huge part of me that would stress the fact that the Bible is the center of Christian Counseling. I absolutely love these verses.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
I can stress this point and show why this is important. But then I remembered this section.
Inherent Needs.
This section is self explanatory but very important. I find as I give advice when I mentor , I tend to go back to these basic principles. This provides a lot of truth and shows why we tend to make the decisions we make. When we went over this section, I spent a lot of time reflecting on my own life as well as the lives of the people I mentor. This became a section that allowed me to do some self examination upon my own decision making. However there was one part that really touched me.
Let me bring this to its proper context.
There is one Inherent need that really sticks out for me, that is love.
Love
To me, Love is everything in my life. I feel my motivation in my life is centered around my love. I personally can not survive without this emotional need. Love controls my every action.
Love for God - My love for God is constantly growing each and every day. I live my life to further my understanding of His word so I can serve Him to the best of my ability. The day I learned to trust God enough in my life to pray to God to constantly test me was the happiest day in my life. That day I found out what the true meaning of the word trust was. Although it seems like I let God down everyday with poor decisions from time to time, God has always been in my life and has always watched over me. I can never thank God enough for the spiritual gifts that were given to me. I am always motivated to learn more to better be able to serve God better.
Love for family- Honestly, God is number one in my life. I can honestly say I love God more than anything else. However, The gift God gave me when Gina became my wife was a very close second. My motivation in my life after serving God is to support and make Gina happy. My motivation to get up at 1 am after sleeping for 3 to 4 hours is to get to work to provide for Gina. I changed my life to become the husband she deserves. My focus at home is directly for her. Our covenant with God and our relationship that is growing with God’s influence provides a love that I would protect and do anything to keep.
My son and his family has my love and guidance as they live and walk with Christ. One of the happiest days I can remember, was watching the wedding of my son to Michelle. The ceremony was beautiful and I was extremely satisfied to see them make their relationship right with God. However, that day brought me a gift that I probably will never have again. That was the day, all of my sisters and my step mom were all in one place at one time. I got to spend quality time with everyone from across our country. Getting that picture is a treasured memory I will never forget. My son and Michelle gave that precious gift to me by having that wedding and I can never repay them for that. My love for them and their son is focused from me as a father but also from the guidance of God.
My brother who passed away two years ago from Covid-19. I remember talking with him after he came out of a coma and telling him about my decision to join the church. His response to me was to challenge my faith. I listened to everything he had to say. I took notes. After letting him vent, I asked him if we could pick this up next week. he said sure. I went home a wrote a major study to Biblical show him the truth. I took it to my pastor to check it over and I spent the next 8 months going over that study with him. I witnessed to him by showing him what God’s word said about his arguments. After 8 months, my brother had accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. Shortly after this, I got a phone call when I was in Chicago that He was starting to pass away and he was requesting me to be there. I drove from Chicago and went home, I grabbed my wife and my son and I went to visit him. I brought my Bible with some verses that Pastor Vance had given me. That night, God decided to show me what love really was. My brother held on until I got there. His last wish was that I came in to read Scripture to him and pray with him. That was all he wanted. After we read Scripture and we prayed, I kissed him on the forehead and said Goodbye. I told him I loved him and I knew he was going to be with Jesus and never in pain again. He smiled and told me he loved me. I left the room and he asked his wife and kids to leave the room. He passed away within the hour quietly and in no pain. I can not properly explain what that did to me but I am on this path because God decided to use me to reach him.
Love for my fellow man. I have learned as a Christian to love my fellow man regardless what they do for or to me. I desire to serve anyone who needs help in their life is a powerful feeling that was not there before becoming a Christian. My desire to help and fellowship with my brothers and sisters in Christ is a feeling I treasure. I find it interesting that God uses me to help with the needs of people almost everyday. I treasure the opportunity to serve the needs of others.
As we were talking about this section, I was reflecting on this part of this section. Everything I do in my life now centers around this word. This inherent need that was given to us by God. I can not operate my life without love. Being a Christian, love is the center of my world now.
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
