Put Away Your Sword

Peter’s Sword

Peter is going to use his sword to protect Jesus from the crowd

V 47-50

turn to Matthew 26 51-56

Peter in his bravado started swinging the sword

They had asked Jesus wether to draw or not but Peter did not wait for the answer

last week we saw the need to fulfill prophecy by Judas betraying Jesus

This week we see Peter trying to prohibit the fulfilling of Prophecy

V 51-

V 54-56

scriptures must be fulfilled

and Peter in his zeal to do what he think is right is swinging his sword against scriptures

we also sometimes do something in our zeal to do something for God end up flopping because God was not in it

God is saying to us put your sword away

we have stopped doing Nanna’s because of the reception that was received

I am putting more focus onto the Pastors Bible class in India. I have more men in this class than I have here most Sundays

V 53

Jesus is in total control of this situation

John 18:5–6 LSB

They answered Him, “Jesus the Nazarene.” He said to them, “I am He.” And Judas also, who was betraying Him, was standing with them. So when He said to them, “I am He,” they drew back and fell to the ground.

These men fell on their faces to to God the Son

Luke 22:51 LSB

But Jesus answered and said, “Stop! No more of this.” And He touched his ear and healed him.

Jesus heals the man with his ear cut

three times Jesus shows his authority over this situation

2 times to the arresting mob

this shows the depravity of the human heart

they uncontrollably bowed down to Him

they saw the healing of the ear

yet still they were there to arrest God and that is what they are going to do

nothing had changed their minds

back to Peter. Jesus told him to be in prayer

there was a spiritual battle to be fought

you could say Peter brought a knife to a gun fight

he was fighting against the will of God

he was fighting the wrong enemy

V 52-53

the authority of darkness are yours

Dark Forces

there is constant warfare going on in the spiritual demention that we cannot see

Daniel 10:10–14 LSB

Then behold, a hand touched me and set me shaking on my hands and knees. And he said to me, “O Daniel, man of high esteem, understand the words that I am about to speak to you and stand upright, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood up trembling. Then he said to me, “Do not be afraid, Daniel, for from the first day that you gave your heart to understand this and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to your words. “But the prince of the kingdom of Persia was standing against me for twenty-one days; then behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me. Now I had been left there with the kings of Persia. “Now I have come to give you an understanding of what will happen to your people in the last days, for the vision pertains to the days yet future.”

all of this takes place in the spiritual demention

there are demons lying to us trying to get us to think or do something we should not

they are tempting us to sin

whispering in your ear your not good enough you have sinned to much for God to ever forgive you

if you are saved They cant enter you to control you but if you fall for their lies you are under their control

Peter here was fighting against a person

but there was spiritual battles going on that Peter should have been fighting against

Ephesians 6:12 LSB

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

these demons, fallen angels, and even satan is controlling people

they are doing their fathers bidding

there is great delusion going on in this world today

this is not a physical warfare that goes on between the Christian and the unbeliever

this is a warfare that is won by the power of the Holy Spirit

this is warfare that is won by prayer

we should not fight like Peter, pick up a sword and cut off a persons ear

Peter was supposed to be in prayer not sleeping

these people that kick us in the knee are doing their fathers will

our war is with these rulers these worlds forces of darkness

that is why we need to be in prayer is because there is a whole spiritual darkness realm that we cant even see

Colossians 1:13 LSB

Who rescued us from the authority of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of the Son of His love,

we have been rescued from this realm and brought to the light

this realm still fights against us with people who are still belong to Satan

Colossians 2:15 LSB

Having disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them in Him.

they can’t themselves touch us who belong to Jesus but their people can

but we are not at war with the people flesh and blood

but but but they are the ones who are mean to me

they have lied about me

they have kicked me in the knee

we on the other hand have to realize it’s not them it’s their handlers who are doing this

and the only way is through putting on the full armor of God to defeat this enemy

yes we need to pick up the sword and use it effectively on the people that are against us

but what is that sword?

Ephesians 6:17 LSB

also receive the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,

the word of God is what Jesus used to defeat satan’s temptations in the wilderness

Peter used the wrong sword when he was defending Jesus against the enemy

we too need to know who the enemy really is

we too need to fight this enemy with the weapons suitable for this enemy

remember you are a child of God rescued from the domain of darkness

and we fight battles against this domain and we will until Jesus returns for us and takes us home

People, flesh and blood are going to hurt us, be against us,

our response should be like Jesus
