296. The Flood illustration and Exhortation to Watchfulness
The first two verses of Matthew and Luke are word for word except Luke adds “and the flood came and destroyed them all.
Luke adds the days of Lot and how it was destroyed suddenly.
Both refer to two women grinding while Matthew adds two ment working in the field and Luke says two people will be sleeping.
Mark says what both Matthew and Luke say….”keep watch” and “Stay Alert!”
Both Matthew and Luke record these words and about the same time in Jesus’ life.
297. Parable of the Good and Wicked Servant
Only Matthew and Luke record these words of Jesus.
Jesus’ words are word for word in Matthew and Luke all except the last sentence.
Matthew ends with “The master will return unannounced and unexpected and he will cut the seervant to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Luke ends with “The master will return unannounced and unexpected, and he will cut the servant in pieces and banish him with the unfaithful.
298. Parable of the Ten Virgins
While the parable of the 10 virgins is only found in Matthew, there are stories that relate the same idea in Mark and Luke.
Mark talks about a man going on a long trip leaving instructions for his servants.
Luke talks about a master returning from a wedding feast, like in Matthew they had to keep their lamps burning.
In all three gospels, Jesus deals with the idea of being ready when the Son of Man comes back.
299. Parable of the Talents/Pounds (See no 266)
We have already discussed this section previously.
300. The Last Judgement
Only Matthew records the story of Jesus separating the sheep and the goats.
Mark and Luke have word for word account of what Jesus says about being ashamed of “me and my message”
John reiterates the idea behind Matthew 25:31-46 by just saying those who do good wil expereince eternal life and those who continue to do evil will experience judgement.
301. The Ministry in Jesus in Jerusalem
Matthew and Mark record nothing about Jesus teaching in the temple, but we do see it in Luke and John.
Luke it is toward the end of Jesus’ life but with John is earlier in his ministry.
302. Greeks seek Jesus; Discourse on His Death
Almost everything we see in the gospel of John we also see in teh other synoptic gospels.
Although it is not centrally focused as we see in John.
Have them find things that are in at least three or four of the gospels.
303. The Unbelief of the People
This section is about the Scriptures being fuliflled, and they all indicate that.
Matthew and John both indicate that the prophet is Isaiah.
The prophecy is about seeing without seeing, hearing without understanding
304. Judgement by the Word
Only John Records these words of Jesus.
