Message Title: Walking Worthy: Traits of a Wise Walker

Bible Passage: Ephesians 5:15-21

Ephesians 4:1 NASB95
1 Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called,
A wise person...

Does not waste time.

James 4:14 “14 Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.”
Colossians 4:5 “5 Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity.”

Knows the will of The Lord.

Why does God have so many rules?
1 Thessalonians 4:1–6 “1 Finally then, brethren, we request and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us instruction as to how you ought to walk and please God (just as you actually do walk), that you excel still more. 2 For you know what commandments we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. 3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; 4 that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, 5 not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God; 6 and that no man transgress and defraud his brother in the matter because the Lord is the avenger in all these things, just as we also told you before and solemnly warned you.”
Romans 12:2 “2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Romans 8:29 “29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;”
James 4:17 “17 Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.”

Is filled with The Spirit.

Do not get drunk with wine.
Proverbs 20:1 “1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, And whoever is intoxicated by it is not wise.”
Ephesians: Verse by Verse The Key: Filled by the Spirit (5:18)

Drunkenness was as big a problem in the ancient world, as it is today, and Proverbs frequently addressed the issue (

Dissipation - wastefulness
filled with The Spirit
Ephesians 1:13 “13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise,”
Acts 2:4 “4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.”
Ephesians 4:30 “30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”
1 Thessalonians 5:19 “19 Do not quench the Spirit;”
Worship with Joy
Give thanks.

Is subject to others.

Ephesians 5:21 “21 and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.”
Proverbs 1:7 “7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
