The Kinsmen Redeemer as a Picture of Christ
The Kinsmen Redeemer as a Picture of Christ
He must be a near relative.
Hebrews 2:14–15 “Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.”
Hebrews 4:15–16 “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
He must follow the Law in accomplishing the redemption.
Galatians 4:4–5 “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.”
Matthew 5:17 ““Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.”
He must be willing and able to pay the price of redemption.
Ephesians 1:7 “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,”
Hebrews 12:2 “looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”
See Colossians 2:13-15...
He must be willing and able to provide and care for the one he redeems.
Philippians 4:19 “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
Romans 8:32 “He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?”
The transaction must be completed and witnessed.
John 19:30 “When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.”
The Blessing of the Lord (Verses 11-22)
The Blessing of the Lord (Verses 11-22)
What blessing did the elders pronounce? Why is this significant?
What did the women say about Naomi? How far had the Lord brought Naomi from chapter 1?
See Ruth 1:19-21...
What did the women say about the value of Ruth?
The name of the son born to Ruth was Obed, which means “servant”.
What is the significance of the genealogy of Obed?
See Matthew 1:1-17...
How could Ruth and David be admitted into the assembly of the Lord in light of Deuteronomy 23?
Deuteronomy 23:3 ““No Ammonite or Moabite may enter the assembly of the Lord. Even to the tenth generation, none of them may enter the assembly of the Lord forever,”
Hope for the Gentiles
Hope for the Gentiles
The Lord promised Abraham that all the families of the earth would be blessed through him. That thought is repeated throughout the Old Testament.
Genesis 12:3 “I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.””
Romans 15:12 “And again Isaiah says, “The root of Jesse will come, even he who arises to rule the Gentiles; in him will the Gentiles hope.””
Isaiah 11:10 “In that day the root of Jesse, who shall stand as a signal for the peoples—of him shall the nations inquire, and his resting place shall be glorious.”
See Isaiah 19:16-25...
The New Testament reveals that believing Jews and Gentiles are united into one body: the church.
John 10:16 “And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.”
Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”
See Ephesians 2:11-22...
See Romans 9:1-8...
See Galatians 3:7-9 and Matthew 3:7-9...
Galatians 3:28–29 “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.”
The Lord offers full and free salvation to every person, whether they are Jewish or Gentiles.
Isaiah 55:1 ““Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.”
Revelation 22:17 “The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.”
Revelation 7:9–10 “After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!””
