Command - Love not the world!

1 John 2:15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

Last wee we looked at the World. It started in Eden when the serpent tempted Eve with the fruit. The World as mentioned before is a corrupt world system. The Bible has three different worlds. The first is the planet, this is not what it is talking about. The second is the fallen world. The one that Jesus died for the one that God so loved. Then their is the world system created in Genesis 3 with Satan it is the world system found in Egypt, in Babylon, in the modern day it is what is paraded in front of you on TV movies and on college campus’ all around the WORLD.

The World will make you it’s slave.

Ephesians 2:1–3 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.

I believe that so many people are slaves to sin. I have seen a lot of them come in here and show me their shackled hands. I know that Jesus has the power to break those chains. Some have, I can name you them. Some of them are serving the LORD full time. Others, hear, they may even respond a little but soon the WORLD is pulling them back.

Satan controls the world.

John 12:31 Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.

Why would you pledge your allegiance to the loser? Not a loser because he was defeated in battle (even though he will be) but a loser in that what he does is wrong vile and gross.

You must decide - will it be God or the world?

James 4:4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

I have watched too many times, I tell you what. People have one foot in the world and one with God! I’ll do it God’s way on Sunday, but flirt with the world on Monday. It doesn’t work! It doesn’t work. You will cave to one or the other and people usually fall into the world system and it destroys them. I have watched it time and again.

Only God can rescue you from the world.

Colossians 1:13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,

If you have ever said that. Dr David Jeremiah saved me. Or my mom saved me. Calmly and politely remind them. We don’t save anyone only Christ can save someone from the world. We have the responsibility to share the gospel. To make disciples but it the LORD who gives the increase.

The world will hate followers of Jesus.

John 15:18–20 If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.

I have watched this in action. Again Charlie Kirk, that man loved people that are in the world, but he did not love the world system. And the world hated him for it. I know that my statement The world system is self serving, sinful kind of love in just a moment we are going to find that it is prideful and aragant it thinks that morality is subjective to their feelings in stead of objective under the authority of the mighty God who is above all. It is prideful! Be careful don’t flirt with that world.

All that is in the world.

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.

The World we found in the Garden.

Lust of the flesh

Lust - strong desire for evil

Flesh - sinful nature, rebellious, it is often sexual in nature, outside of God’s moral standard.

Romans 8:5–8 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

The flesh is part of that old man. That sinful nature that we all have inside of us that is opposed to God. God is holy just right and good. The Flesh is not it is opposed to God and all the good that he has in store for you. You can’t be both in the world and have your mind fixed on Christ you have to pick one or the other.

Lust of the eyes

Satan uses the eyes

2 Samuel 11:2Then it happened one evening that David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to behold.

Joshua 7:20–21And Achan answered Joshua and said, “Indeed I have sinned against the Lord God of Israel, and this is what I have done: When I saw among the spoils a beautiful Babylonian garment, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them. And there they are, hidden in the earth in the midst of my tent, with the silver under it.”

This goes right back to the serpent tempting Eve in Eden. Oh be careful little eyes what you see. I think you have to be careful. What are you filling your mind with? I have warned people don’t fill your eyes with church on one day and hateful propaganda of the news. ANY NEWS every other day all the time, don’t fill your eyes with pornography with entertainment, Some people are in church for an hour and they are bored and then they find themselves at the movies or drooling watching disney 6 days a week 4 hours a day.

Pride of Life

James 4:16 But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.

Thinking you know better than God. Abortionist, the evolutionist, the homosexual, the atheist all think that they know better than God and their moral subjective compass is better that His divine will and purpose. Don’t follow the devil. I will ascend into heaven I will be like the most high God.

Good news - The world is passing away.

1 John 2:17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

Take a deep breath Christian. You need one. 1 John 2.15 and 16 is intense. But take heart the bile of this world comes to an end. The devil’s days are numbered God’s are eternal. AMEN! Like really AMEN!!! Woke Disney culture will be gone and God’s kingdom will be forever. Politicing in Washington Talk of Jeffery Epstien Pride Parades Abortion and all of it are passing away. BYE BYE But He shall reign forever and ever.

The world is headed for destruction.

Romans 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Remember this phrase. The world here doesn’t compare to what is coming. Do you get that, I don’t think that some of you do. Some people seem like they love this place a little too much. They love it’s movies, they are so consumed with what is going on in Washington that they don’t see what’s going on in heaven. They follow football so closely that they miss opportunities for Christ. They are so into disney or music or a plethera of other things that they can’t see that HEAVEN is coming MARANATHA the coming glory means nothing to them.

The world and all who are with it are headed for destruction.

Colossians 3:5–7 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.

I love that last part. In which you once walked. I tell you what, I did a series on this. Walking with God! I want to walk with God. Enoch walked with God! Don’t get to carried away with that one just take it for what it’s worth. Noah walked with God. Abraham was created to be God’s friend, David was a man after God’s own heart and Caleb fully trusted the LORD and Moses spoke to God face to face as a man speaks to His friend. John never got over the fact that Jesus loved him. WALK with God

Put off the old man of the flesh.

Colossians 3:8–11 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.

Put off the old filthy rags of this world and clothes yourself in the righteousness of Christ start living as if Christ would want you too. The world is addiction. EVERYTHING on these two lists are addictive and destructive. We as people are all addicted to something. Be addicted to Christ!

How do we overcome the world?

John has the answer in this book so I have to skip ahead a little bit. We will look at these verses more clearly later on so just take them for what they are today, because from the circumspect view we get a clear picture of John’s message on how to not love the world

1 Faith defeats the World.

1 John 5:4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

Faith in God. To the athiest I believe in God, in the end that is all that matters. If I am right! HEAVEN is MY HOME and I lived a happy life, free of guilt and shame with Jesus my Best Friend. If you are right, I have lost nothing, but still gained everything. BUT still my faith is in Jesus

To the evolutionist - God is the magnificent creator I believe what He said not you

To the abortionist - My faith is in God who said that all men are created in God’s image and after His likeness Children are precious

To the homosexual - Morality is not subjective. God said it is wrong, it is wrong end of story, God created you in the image of God male and female. My faith is in God!

To all of those. God loves you, I don’t agree with you because I agree with Him. He died for you and I pray that the Holy Spirit convicts you and tells you that the answer to eternity is found in Jesus Christ! Which lead me to number 2

2 The Holy Spirit protects you from the world.

1 John 4:4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

He who is in you is greater than He who is in the world maybe you have been flirting with the devil for way to long and you are tired of his lies. The Holy spirit is convicting you. Christian how do you escape the world, The Holy Spirit He is right here. Someone told me once I preached to much on the Holy Spirit. NOT SORRY! WON’T CHANGE! I’m not obsessed with the WORLD! I don’t care about this world. It is passing away every little bit of it. And I tell you what, you can have it. I’ll take the Holy Spirit! I think that person was trying to insult me. That was the best compliment I ever recieved. I went right to my mentor Pastor Dan Baker and that great man of God said don’t you ever stop preaching about the Holy Spirit, this world is in trouble if you do.

3 The Word of God overcomes the world.

1 John 2:14 I have written to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, Because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, And you have overcome the wicked one.

I have never once heard someone say something so brilliant that it is better than the inspired word of God. You ever heard the phrase sin will keep you from this book or this book will keep you from sin. I got that from Alice Clarke it came from her Bible and those words are precious to me. and they should be to you too.

The night Jesus died, He prayed for you about the world.

John 17:14–16 I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

This is where we get that idea. We are in the world but we are not of it. I really try to live that. This world is not my home I am just a passing through. I can appreciate the beauty of nature. I understand that whole heartedly. But I do not love the world! The world system is corrupt. I walk down the city of Binghamton and I have two reactions. This world is corrupt and it is killing people and sending them straight to hell. I turn on the TV and think the same thing. I LOVE JESUS! I want heaven ! But I also see the lost that Jesus came to die for and I see compassion for each soul. I understand that I am ambassador. LORD you have me here for a reason. Help me to be a witness for you. I know they won’t like my message. That’s ok! I have a bunch of Christ behind me who love me and support me and Jesus is on my side.

Jesus left you the proper tools change your worldview.

John 17:17–19 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.

I have always said look at the greater things that Jesus left the church. Once someone told me that I beat the Holy Spirit to death with my preaching. I can’t do that! Jesus said that He would leave us greater things. Things to defeat this world. Tools in our belt to do the job. LOVE, FORGIVENESS, GRACE. MERCY, WORD, FAITH, HOLY SPIRIT, HOPE OF HEAVEN. A little bit ago I read to you from the put off put on section of Colossians chapter 3 We need to put off the world and put on better things.

Change your worldview.

Colossians 3:1–2 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.

I just laid out for you the world and what it looks like lust of the flesh lust of the eyes and pride of life. We have to live in the world but we don’t have to be of it. We are of heaven. This world is passing away. I am an ambassador of Jesus called to share the life saving message of the gospel with as many as I can as long as I can and the devil wants to stop that so he is going to through anger malice strife bitterness. Lust pride addiction in your way. Change your worldview. Think on things above.

How to defeat the world FAITH, THE HOLY SPIRIT, and THE WORD OF GOD!

Benediction - Your choice, the world or abide forever.

Colossians 3:3–4 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

Revelation 22:4–5They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.
