1. Loving Through Lifestyle

John 14:15
Perhaps you might consider exploring how loving Jesus involves actively choosing to align your lifestyle with His teachings. Reflect on what this love looks like in practical terms, such as kindness, honesty, and compassion. You could encourage teens to evaluate their own lives for growth in areas where their actions may not reflect their love for Jesus. This kind of self-assessment can inspire them to make decisions that more closely mirror Christ's example, cultivating a life of obedience through love.
Main idea: In my humanity, how can I love and obey as Jesus did?
I want to help us answer this question.
Intro - how I got to love my then girlfriend, now my wife. I began to get to know her. YOU CANNOT LOVE SOMEONE THAT YOU DON’T KNOW, AND YOU CANNOT OBEY JOYFULLY AND WHOLEHEARTEDLY SOMEONE THAT YOU DON’T KNOW.
Your love is rooted in knowing God
“If you love me.” Well, how can you love if you don’t know Him? J. I, Packer, wrote one of the most fascinating books I’ve read called Knowing God. He says this:
What were we made for? To know God. What aim should we set ourselves in life? To know God. What is the eternal life that Jesus gives? Knowledge of God. “This is eternal life, that they may know the, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent” (John 17:3). What is the best thing in life, bringing more joy, delight, and contentment, than anything else? Knowledge of God.
When you start knowing someone or something, your heart begins to develop a unique love and affection. My dad, at a very early age introduced me to the game of baseball. The more I hangout with my dad around sports, my love for both grew naturally. The man and the sport.
Let me ask you this — Are you in your Bible as much as you are in Roblox? If you have a phone or a tablet, you know that on Sunday, it gives you a notification on how much time. You have spent on each app the past week. What would be the number 1 app you have used? Is the Bible top 3?
This isn’t legalism, or empty religion; this is a matter of affection to the one who has called you out of darkness to Himself. This is a personal matter, friends. Your love will increase as much as your knowledge of him increases.
Your obedience overflows from your relationship with God
If you love me, you will keep
Now, when you know God and begin to love him, obedience does come naturally. Are you are naturally inclined to be attentive to His voice.
Your life will display Christ's character in you and through you.
Christ's connection: Christ fulfills the law and the prophets by demonstrating perfect obedience and love for God, serving as the ultimate model for us to follow in our daily lives.
