covering a lot of things really fast

mostly the story of Abram

After the fall

Cain and Abel

the flood and Noah

humanity keeps choosing to be a beast rather than an image bearer

Calling Abram

God finds a man who seeks the well-being of others over himself

hidden in a genealogy

albeit not a perfect man

one who fails but keeps on trying to make good just as God has

Offspring of Promise

God promises to make a great nation and to bless all nations through Abram

he tells him of the future

he rewards the faith of a man who despite his failures, trusts in the God who keeps his promises

the God who tells his story in his own time

Application

it can seem like God is distant, like he doesn’t seem to care about my part in the story

you know you’ve been called to follow him and spread his gospel

you do your best and still things go horribly wrong and bad things happen to you and others in your life

God has a large story to tell and he tells it in his own timing

he works and he rests as he sees fit, working for good all the while

we are called to have real faith, to trust that God’s timing is good regardless of my feelings in the moment
