Modern Idolatry

Exodus 20:1–3 “And God spoke all these words, saying, “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. “You shall have no other gods before me.”

Exodus 20:4 ““You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.”

Exodus 20:5 “You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me,”

Matthew 6:21 “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Ch. 1: Ezekiel is an exile in Babylon

He receives a very detailed vision of the Glory of God

Ch. 2 & 3: He is called to speak whether or not the nation of Israel listens

Ezekiel 2:7 “And you shall speak my words to them, whether they hear or refuse to hear, for they are a rebellious house.”

Ch. 3: He is told to be a watchman

Ezekiel 3:17–19 ““Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. If I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, in order to save his life, that wicked person shall die for his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. But if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, or from his wicked way, he shall die for his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul.”

Ch. 4: Multiple symbolic references prophesying the coming siege of Jerusalem

Ch. 5: Ezekiel is to shave his head and divide the hair into three parts.

This prophecies the coming destruction of Jerusalem

Speaking to the mountains

Mountains and hills were place set up for Idol Worship

Idolatry will lead to total destruction

God is the same in all circumstances

HE is Merciful “Yet I will leave a remnant, so that you may have some who escape the sword among the nations, when you are scattered through the countries. Ezekiel 6:8

HE is Just Ezekiel 6:12 “He who is far off shall die of pestilence, and he who is near shall fall by the sword, and he who is left and is preserved shall die of famine. Thus I will spend my fury upon them.”

He is Jealous Exodus 20:3 ““You shall have no other gods before me.” Ezekiel 6:10 “And they shall know that I am the Lord. I have not said in vain that I would do this evil to them.””

4. Diblah is only Mentioned here in all of scripture and is unclear as to it physical location, but that not the point. The point is the reiteration of a life contrary to following the LORD will result in desolation
