Have you ever been in an escape room? The goal is simple: get out before time runs out. The problem is that you’re trapped in this confined space and don’t know how to get free. There are clues all around you—on the walls, in the furniture, sometimes even hidden in plain sight—but you’re panicking, second-guessing, feeling stuck. It’s frustrating, right? Because you know freedom is possible, but you can’t figure out how to unlock it. That’s how a lot of people live their lives. We feel trapped, not by a locked room, but by guilt, shame, sin, anxiety, or the pressure to measure up. And the whole time, we’re searching for anything that will get us out. But here’s the twist: the key isn’t hidden. It’s right in front of you. Jesus isn’t trying to make freedom hard to find—He is the freedom. No Other Name can unlock every chain you’re trapped in. And when you stop searching for other ways out and finally trust the One who already opened the door, you’ll experience the kind of freedom that actually lasts.

We can only obey one name

The name we obey will set us “free” from something

In the Eragon series, each person has a “true name”. You have the name people call you. But then you have a true name, that defines a persons character. If someone had your true name that gives someone power over you. In our world there is the “name” that sin and death want us to believe we have. The name that we give ourselves in our heads. A name that enslaves us to the world. But when we are in Christ, our name is “Son or daughter of the living God”. And under this name, our old name no longer has any power.

We receive a “wage” from whatever name we obey. What gift do we want to receive?
