1 Corinthians 12:11 “All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.”

These gifts are given to help the Church

1 Corinthians 12:1 “Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed.”

1 Corinthians 12:4–7 “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.”

What gift does the Holy Spirit give to help the Church?

Some gifts that the Holy Spirit gave were for a short time at the beginning of the Church, the Apostolic era. (The time of the Apostles)

These can be called sign gifts. They were given to the Apostles and those close to them as signs that what they were saying and writing were from God

Just as Jesus performed miracles as a sign that he was from God and was God

Miracles

Healing

Prophecy

The ability to tell and banish evil spirits, demons

Tongues

Means language in Greek

Gave the ability to speak in a different language without learning it first

The giving of these gifts have come to a close because we now have the completed word of God in the Bible, which is a great gift from God

Some gifts that the Holy Spirit gives are for the whole Church age and are still given now

Wisdom

Knowledge

Faith

Ability to maintain a strong faith in hard times and to help other do the same

Service

Ask what kind of service could help the Church

Teaching

Explaining God’s word and showing how to apply it in our lives

Exhortation

Definition is to to urge on someone close to you

Urge on means to encourage someone

Being able to use God’s word to encourage others

To repent

To pray

To read God’s word

To live as God has said

Giving or generosity

Leading

What is the church?

We are all members of the body of the Church, both local and Universal

To be a complete body the Church needs all of it’s parts

Hands

Eyes

Ears

Mouth

Nose

Feet

We are not to be jealous of gifts that other fellow members have in the Church

Without feet we could not walk

Romans 12:3–6 “For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them:”
