Consumer or Engager?

What is a consumer?

A consumer is always taking in. Whether it is content or possessions or anything. There frame of interacting is what can you or it do for me.

Culture tells us to do this mainly by social media. It is designed for you to scroll through and just consume content. Or binge watching shows. Just sit on the couch or bed and watch. Scroll your life away.

We are taught to just consume our faith, to listen to podcasts read books but never make it out into action.

who are we becoming if we only consume content and life?

Romans 12:3–8 “For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.”

We are all the Church

We have responsibilities to each other that involve action we cannot simply consume church but be a part of creating what we want to see

1 Corinthians 12:12–14 “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.”

We use our gifts

God is looking for Partners

not consumers.

God could do everything by himself and it would go great but all through scripture God is looking for people to partner with him.

A covenant is partnership it takes two willing parties.

God wants his people to partner with him in building his kingdom here on earth to not just hear teaching but to engage with it and more importantly engage with Him.

Matthew 11:28–30 ““Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.””

we still have a yoke there is still work to be done we just do not carry most of the weight.

God partners with Abraham, Jacob, David, the prophets, the disciples, and now you to enact his will here on earth
