12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this darkness, against evil, spiritual forces in the heavens.
13 For this reason take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand.
14 Stand, therefore, with truth like a belt around your waist, righteousness like armor on your chest,
15 and your feet sandaled with readiness for the gospel of peace.
16 In every situation take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit—which is the word of God.
18 Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.

When is the last time you thought about spiritual warfare?
Revelation 12 pulls back the curtain and shows a war raging in the unseen realm.
The dragon wages war against the people of God.
And whether we like it or not, that war has spilled into our lives.
It is why Peter warns us that the devil prowls around like a lion, looking for someone to devour.
Sometimes we would rather not think about it.
Open war has been declared upon us.
Whether we realize it or not, we are already in a battle.
Just because it is invisible, does not mean it is imaginary.
Read with me 2 Corinthians 10:3-5:
3 For although we live in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh,
4 since the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but are powerful through God for the demolition of strongholds. We demolish arguments
5 and every proud thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ.
Two things I want you to see:
We are engaged in a war.
The battlefield is your mind and heart.
This fall, we are focusing on living with eternity in mind.
We’ve been talking about the hope of the kingdom and victory God gives his people.
Today we will see that eternal perspective matters most when the battle rages fiercest.
If we know the war has already been won through Christ, we will not lose heart.
Four things I want to accomplish today:
We are the targets of a fierce enemy.
God equips us with effective weapons.
We need to reacquaint ourselves with who the enemy really is.
And, most importantly, we do not fight for victory, we fight from it, because Jesus has already won.
This is how we live with eternity in mind: not in fear of the enemy, but in confidence of the victory Christ has secured.

to set the stage, let’s look at what Peter said:
8 Be sober-minded, be alert. Your adversary the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour.
This is not a metaphor.
It’s a warning — for you.
He wants your marriage.
He wants your children.
He wants your faith.
He has a plan to terrorize your soul.
To render you impotent as a believer.
to make you worthless to the cause of Christ.
to make your life one of misery and defeat.
All the spoils of this spiritual war are all around us.
Look at the broken homes.
Look at the addictions that enslave.
Look at the bitterness that divides God’s people.
Our lives are hard fought.
We wrestle with the power of evil.
It is hand to hand, foot to foot.
Every inch along the way is disputed.
This is a daily reality for every Christian.
And the sobering truth is that Satan has you for a target.
He has been slaughtering homes for years.
Some of you are under attack right now — struggling in silence — hiding behind a smile.
You think no one knows - but God knows.
And your brothers and sisters need to know so they can rally around you to help and help you heal.
16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect.
Don’t fight the war alone.
Take off the mask.
Find allies in Christ.
All of this matters because we’re not just fighting for peace for the moment — but for eternity in view.
Satan wants you distracted, ashamed, and defeated now so that you’ll lose sight of the victory that belongs to you in Christ.
You need to see his attack for what it is … and when you do … you begin to fight differently.
You realize that every temptation and every discouragement is part of a bigger battle for your soul.

Now, let’s go to our principal passage for the day: Ephesians 6. Let’s begin with v. 10-12:
10 Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by his vast strength.
11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the schemes of the devil.
12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this darkness, against evil, spiritual forces in the heavens.
Again, acquaint yourself with the reality.
Behind what we see in our world — behind all the corruption, brokenness, and hatred, there are spiritual forces at work.
If you ignore that, you’re walking in to battle unarmed.
Know this. God has not left you defenseless.
13 For this reason take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand.
v. 14-18: The armor listed one piece at a time:
v. 14: the belt of truth. You can’t stand against the Father of lies without being grounded in what is true.
14 Stand, therefore, with truth like a belt around your waist, righteousness like armor on your chest,
v. 14: the breastplate of righteousness. A holy life guards your heart from corruption.

v. 15: shoes of the gospel of peace. Stability and purpose come from knowing the good news and standing in it.
15 and your feet sandaled with readiness for the gospel of peace.
v. 16: the shield of faith. Every fiery dart of doubt and temptation is extinguished by trust in God’s promises.
16 In every situation take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
v. 17: the helmet of salvation. It protects your mind, reminding you of who you are in Christ.
17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit—which is the word of God.
v. 17: The sword of the Spirit. God’s word is your only offensive weapon. Jesus Himself used it in the wilderness.

v. 18: Prayer. This is your constant lifeline of strength and supply.
18 Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.
Now, understand this. These things are not just decorative language to fill up the preacher’s sermon.
These are the things with which you survive.
Satan is real.
He’s not your friend.
He hates that you love Christ and he wants to bring you ruin.
But God has given you every resources needed to stand firm.
When you take up the armor of God, you are not just surviving — you are reminding yourself of eternity.
Every time you lift the shield of faith, every time you pray, every time you wield the word of God, you are declaring that the battle belongs to the Lord and that His victory is already yours.

One of Satan’s greatest victories in our time is convincing people he doesn’t exist.
Yet Scripture calls him by many names, and each one exposes how he works.
If we are going to stand firm, we need to know who — and what — we are facing.
The names of Satan:
Satan – “Adversary”
18 So we wanted to come to you—even I, Paul, time and again—but Satan hindered us.
He opposes God’s agenda and works to pull you away from His plan.
Devil – “Slanderer”
8 Be sober-minded, be alert. Your adversary the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour.
He whispers lies, ruins reputations, stirs up gossip, and discredits God’s people.
Lucifer – “Shining One”
12 Shining morning star, how you have fallen from the heavens! You destroyer of nations, you have been cut down to the ground.
He rarely comes looking ugly and frightening. He comes dressed in beauty and winsomeness, trying to make sin look good.
Beelzebub – “Lord of the Flies”
24 When the Pharisees heard this, they said, “This man drives out demons only by Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons.”
The god of filth. He thrives in corruption.
Belial – “False God”
15 What agreement does Christ have with Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?
He diverts worship away from the Lord. He loves to replace God with idols—whether that idol is money, status, or self.
The Evil One
19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world is under the sway of the evil one.
His influence corrupts everything he touches. He is behind the evil that shocks us in the headlines and the temptations that plague us in private.
The Tempter
5 For this reason, when I could no longer stand it, I also sent him to find out about your faith, fearing that the tempter had tempted you and that our labor might be for nothing.
He takes good desires—food, ambition, rest, intimacy—and twists them into cheap substitutes that dishonor God.
The Accuser of the Brethren
10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say, The salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have now come, because the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been thrown down.
He condemns, bringing up sins God has already forgiven, whispering: “You’re worthless. You’re a failure. You’re not good enough.”
The Father of lies
44 You are of your father the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of lies.
The truth does not reside within him.
He can appear as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). At times he is seen as a crafty serpent, at other times as a raging dragon, at times the deceiver who flatters.
We need to know who he is and how he is identified.
If you don’t know how the enemy works, you will fall for his schemes.
The devil could care less if you attend church.
He cares whether you have been transformed.
He doesn’t mind you believing in God as long as you don’t resist him.
And this is where eternity sharpens our perspective.
Satan wants to keep you chained to guilt, bitterness, and empty pleasures so that you’ll forget that Christ has already secured eternal victory.
But when you recognize his tactics, you see through his lies.
You begin to fight with eyes fixed on the finish line, not the distracts of today.

Here is the most important truth about spiritual warfare: Satan is already a defeated foe.
At the cross, his dead was crushed (Genesis 3:15).
Paul said:
15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and disgraced them publicly; he triumphed over them in him.
This means the battle you fight today is not about wondering who will win - it’s about living out the victory Christ has already secured.
4 You are from God, little children, and you have conquered them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
You are not fighting for victory — you are fighting from it.
Notice what else John says:
4 because everyone who has been born of God conquers the world. This is the victory that has conquered the world: our faith.
5 Who is the one who conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
Victory is not uncertain.
It belongs to every child of God.
We began today by briefly referencing Revelation 12. Look at v. 11:
11 They conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; for they did not love their lives to the point of death.
They stood firm, even when it cost them their lives, because they knew eternity was secure.
It is James who gives us the practical way forward:
7 Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
This is a promise. It is an assurance.
When you bow to God and stand against Satan, the enemy has no choice but to run.
So, when you feel defeated, remember: There is no suspense in the kingdom of God about how this ends.
Christ has already won.
Your role is to live faithfully in the shadow of that victory.
Every battle, every temptation, every hardship is endured with eternity in mind — knowing that nothing Satan does can undo what Christ has accomplished.
As We Close…
As We Close…
How many of us are often tormented by the “accuser” in our mind?
You know, the thoughts that accuse us of failure, unworthiness, or condemnation.
The voice can be relentless and eat away at our confidence and devotion.
We need to discern which thoughts are from the accuser and which come from the Comforter.
If a thought does not line up with Christ’s promise … reject it.
As you develop this as a habit — the lies will lose their grip.
The whispers will retreat.
The weight of condemnation will lift.
You can rediscover peace, purpose, joy in serving again.
Whatever Satan throws at you—temptation, guilt, fear, division—remember that Christ has already overcome.
If your marriage is struggling, if you feel weighed down by guilt, if you are barely holding on—don’t believe the enemy’s lie that you are defeated. In Christ, you are more than a conqueror.
Every attack is temporary, but the victory is eternal. Satan is loud, but his time is short. Christ is risen, and His triumph is forever.
Whose voice will you listen to?
The accuser, who wants to keep you chained?
Or the Savior, who invites you to stand in His strength, clothed in His armor, safe in His victory?
If you are not yet in Christ, the battle is not yours to fight—you’re unarmed and unprotected.
But if you will turn to Jesus, confess His name, repent, and be baptized, you can step into His victory today.
And if you are a Christian who has been wounded, hiding the battle, or believing the lies—take off the mask.
Come back to the cross. Fight from the victory Jesus has already secured.
