As Jesus nears the cross in John 17:6–19, He turns His focus from the world to those who belong to Him. In this heartfelt prayer, Jesus asks the Father to keep them, sanctify them, and send them a prayer that still reaches Christians today. He prays for the security of believers in salvation, deliverance from the evil one, and sanctification in the truth. Through this passage, we see the stages of faith from knowing about Jesus to truly believing in Him and living set apart for His purpose. Christ’s prayer reminds Christians that they are protected, called, and sent. Because Jesus prayed for them, they can live boldly, faithfully, and uncompromisingly in His truth
