Let’s Start With the Facts
Let’s Start With the Facts
Law of Noncontradiction - things are or things aren’t
What do we know exists?
This universe
What is the universe?
All of space, time, matter, and energy, encompassing everything that exists
Does the universe have an origen or has it existed eternally?
Did the Universe Always Exist — or Did It Have a Beginning?
Did the Universe Always Exist — or Did It Have a Beginning?
The First and Second Laws of Thermodynamics (1850’s)
The First Law of Thermodynamics states that energy can neither can created nor destroyed
This means that the energy that exists in the universe has remained a constant.
The Second Law of Thermodynamics states that the universe is running our of “usable” energy
This means that although the energy still exists. It only exists in a form that isn’t useful
This Law determines that the universe will one day reach a point where there is no more useful energy and everything will die.
How do you guys think this proves that the universe had a beginning?
This proves the universe had a beginning, because had it exists in eternity past, we would have already reached a place of complete disorder and useless energy.
Einsteins Theory of General Relativity (1916)
This theory as it relates to the universe, calculates that time, space, and matter can be traced backward to a specific origin.
It also states that time, space, and matter can only exist together, and one cannot exist without the other
It shows that the universe is expanding
Fun Fact: Einstein was not comfortable with these finding, and he manipulated his equations to prove the universe had always existed in static state. Later, he admitted it was false and the calculations proved the universe has been expanding.
The Hubble Discovery (1920)
A man named Edwin Hubble discovered through his telescope that the galaxies away from us were moving farther away and at faster speeds. This proved that Einsteins calculations were correct.
There are more scientific discoveries that point to the universe having a beginning, but we will end here.
There is a law that exists in reality called the Law of Causality
Every event (effect) had a cause
This law is the reason why FBI agents have a job
With that being said, we can make this logical argument
Arguments for the existence of God
Arguments for the existence of God
Erase everything and beginning giving these arguments
Cosmological Argument
Cosmological Argument
Everything that had a beginning, had a cause
The universe had a beginning
Therefore, the universe had a cause
The question is who or what caused it?
So what kind of cause could create time, space, and matter? It can’t be made of any of those things — meaning the cause must be timeless, spaceless, immaterial, and incredibly powerful.
This sounds a lot like the God of the Bible.
God is Timeless
Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
Psalm 90:2 “Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from eternity to eternity, you are God.”
Isaiah 57:15 “For the High and Exalted One, who lives forever, whose name is holy, says this: “I live in a high and holy place, and with the oppressed and lowly of spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and revive the heart of the oppressed.”
Revelation 1:8 “‘I am the Alpha and the Omega,’ says the Lord God, ‘the one who is, who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.’”
God is Spaceless
1 Kings 8:27 “But will God indeed live on earth? Even heaven, the highest heaven, cannot contain you, much less this temple I have built.”
Acts 17:24 “The God who made the world and everything in it—he is Lord of heaven and earth—does not live in shrines made by hands.”
God is Immaterial
John 4:24 “God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in Spirit and in truth.”
1 Timothy 1:17 “Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”
Teleological Argument
Teleological Argument
Every design had a designer
The universe has highly complex design
Therefore, the universe had a Designer
We know this to be true because designs have never appeared by themselves, they were always designed by something or someone.
Example of the funny notes y’all put on the board. Someone did it.
Someone designed and created this watch that I made
We can apply this same logic to the design of the universe.
The laws of physics, DNA, the mountains, animals, all of it came from God
Isaiah 45:12 “I made the earth, and created humans on it. It was my hands that stretched out the heavens, and I commanded everything in them.”
Psalm 139:13–14 “For it was you who created my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise you because I have been remarkably and wondrously made. Your works are wondrous, and I know this very well.”
Psalm 19:1 “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the expanse proclaims the work of his hands.”
Moral Argument
Moral Argument
Every law has a lawgiver
There is a absolute Moral Law
Therefore, there is a Moral Lawgiver
What do you think Absolute Moralism is?
It means there is a universal and concrete set of morals that are true for everyone.
To not believe this, would mean believing in Relative Moralism, which means a relative and changing set of morals
Example of an atheist writing a paper and receiving an F
If there is a absolute set of morals, where did it come from?
James 4:12 “There is one lawgiver and judge who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?”
Psalm 19:7–9 “The instruction of the Lord is perfect, renewing one’s life; the testimony of the Lord is trustworthy, making the inexperienced wise. The precepts of the Lord are right, making the heart glad; the command of the Lord is radiant, making the eyes light up. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are reliable and altogether righteous.”
