INTRODUCTION

In light of what we have learned in Hebrews, who do we want to be?
Today we will walk through 3 commitments.

INTRO PRAYER

Start

WE WILL BE GOD-CENTERED

The problem that plagues us: we have put the self in the center.
The God-centered prayer of verses 20-21:

1. God’s Character

Hebrews 13:20–21 ESV
20 Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, 21 equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

2. God’s Activity

Amen.
We won’t live out the right identity without the right center.

WE WILL BE EQUIPPED FOR ACTION

Do you ever feel ill-equipped for spiritual maturity? God equips those that he calls.
Keys to understanding “equipping.”

1. What am I being equipped for?

Hebrews 13:20–21 ESV
20 Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, 21 equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
Is God’s will a mystery to be discovered?
The will of God: that we would live for his glory in obedience to the gospel through the power of Christ.
Colossians 3:17 ESV
17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

2. How does God equip us?

Hebrews 13:20–21 ESV
20 Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, 21 equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
John 15:5 ESV
5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
Submit to the vine and watch for the fruit. Remember the “center.”

WE WILL PROCLAIM GOD’S PEACE AND GRACE

The deep peace that comes from God.
Hebrews 13:20 ESV
20 Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant,
The umbrella of Grace that covers God’s people.
Hebrews 13:25 ESV
25 Grace be with all of you.
The distinctive witness of the church.

PASTORAL PRAYER

Hebrews 12:1–2 ESV
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
