Scripture

Matthew 6:1–15 NKJV
1 “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2 Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 3 But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly. 5 “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. 9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. 14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

I. Giving the Kingdom Way

It’s important to remember that Jesus it teaching us how to operate in the kingdom. The people have had an example of righteousness. But the righteousness they have seen is without power. Jesus is attempting to establish a kingdom way of living that is fueled by a submitted heart.
Matthew 5:20 NKJV
20 For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
Jesus tells his audience:
Matthew 6:1–4 NKJV
1 “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2 Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 3 But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.
Jesus is not saying that people cannot see the things you do. He is saying that our motivation for giving should not be the audience but a sincere heart.
Those who are performative and trying to impress will receive a temporary reward. But God promises a greater reward for those who give truly from the heart.
Luke 21:1–4 NKJV
1 And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, 2 and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. 3 So He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; 4 for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.”
This woman proportionally gave the larger amount because her heart was to please God. She did not wake up expecting someone to see what she gave. She came to the temple with a mind to worship through her giving.
Power Principle: When the heart is focused on God, generosity is a natural result

II. Praying with Kingdom Purpose

Matthew 6:5–10 NKJV
God is not after long prayer. He requires sincere and effective prayer. He is not after selfish or self center babbling. He requires prayer from a properly postured heart.

A. The Proper Approach “Our Father”

Our posture is just as important as our prayer.
We have access to a relational God.

B. Hallowed Be Your Name

God desires our sincere worship as we approach Him in prayer. God is not an aloof being in the cosmos. He has a name and His name should be praised. Why do I praise His name? Because His name is great and it reminds me that He is everything that I need!
When I’m in need you are: Jehovah-Jireh: The Lord Who Provides
When I’m troubled you are: Jehovah Shalom: The Lord Our Peace
When I feel defeated you are: Jehovah Nissi: The Lord’s Banner of Victory
When I need healing you are: Jehovah Rophe: The Lord Who Heals
When I was in you sin you are: Jehovah Mekadesh: The Lord Who Sanctifies
When I am lost you are: Jehovah Robi: The Lord My Shepherd
Oh Elohim: The All-Powerful Creator!
Great Jehovah: The Self-Revealing One!
Adonai: The Owner of All
El Elion: The Most High Ruler
Jehovah Tsikenu: The Lord My Righteousness
Hallowed be your Name!
Demons tremble at the mention of His name! Strongholds are torn down at the mention of His name! Situations can change at the mention of His Name.
So when I go into prayer . I come boldy before the throne. I come unto Him who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all we could ask or think!
Hallowed be your Name!

C. Thy Kingdom Come

Lord let your rulership reign!
Thy Will be done
Have your way in my life!
Have your way in my home!
Have your way in my city!
Have your way in my church!
When I pray in the kingdom, I acknowledge to God that “Thy will is greater than My Will”
A. I am at peace with the will of God
B. I am delighted in the way of God
c. I am submitted to the work of God!
