Last week we saw the corruption of marriage and the development of sin.
Doubt God’s Word.
Deny God’s Word.
Deify Yourself as god.
Today, we are going to be looking at the Consciousness of Sin.
Consciousness is an internal knowledge, an acute awareness.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
shows us the conception of sin.
It begins in our mind.
See, we question God. “the lust of the eyes” The desire for satisfaction. This one tree will satisfy her more than all the other trees God has given her.
then we question God’s goodness. “the lust of the flesh”
If ithe fruit is so bad, then why did God make it look so good?
then we believe sin will satisfy us. “the pride of life. The fruit would make her wiser.
From mind to emotion, the heart, to the flesh. She took and she ate.
Realization of Shame.
Realization of Shame.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
knew = learned
Recognition of the Eyes.
Recognition of the Eyes.
They saw theirself as they have never seen each other before.
With the knowledge of good and evil, they now perceived their nakedness and it brought forth shame.
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
What exactly is the image of God?
An Image is a copy or duplication.
2 Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: Who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:
Explains the garment of God as light.
At the mount of transfiguration, when the disciples eyes were open, they saw Jesus.
2 And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them.
3 And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them.
This light is what is referred to as the Shekinah glory of God.
Now, look at Psalm 8:5
5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, And hast crowned him with glory and honour.
Then the Apostle Paul is addressing the church at Corinth on the subject of the resurrection and says this in
51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
Changed, back to that glorified body that Adam and Eve had before sin.
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
Because of sin, their glory had departed.
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Remember, before sin they were unashamed.
25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
However, with the opening of the eyes their glory had departed and now they are faced with guilt and shame.
But not only were their eyes opened, but there was also the
Revelation of Nakedness
Revelation of Nakedness
7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
They Knew they were naked.
Knew = has to do with the mind.
Revealed and perceived.
6 And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens.
When we come to God, our sinfulness is exposed. That lack of glory is seen and we need mercy. We need the blood of Jesus Christ to cleanse us from all sin and unrighteousness.
We live in a society of unblushable people.
15 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the Lord.
When we look at ourselves, we need to see our nakedness, that lack of glory because of our sinfulness.
19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
When sin becomes our glory we should be ashamed, and if not, we will be destroyed.
America, Arkansas, Saline County, Kentucky MBC, we need to wake up and recognize our nakedness and confess our sins.
However, we tend to follow Adam and Eve’s lead.
Ridiculous Schemes.
Ridiculous Schemes.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
When Adam and Eve Knew of their nakedness, that departed glory, they attempted to cover their nakedness themselves.
Do you know the word for this?
Hypocrisy. - the attempt to undo our sin life and cover our sins with man-made garments.
These garments come in many styles, religion, education, morality, rituals are all fig leaves that can never cover our shame and our sin before the eyes of an Almighty God.
You remember Hebrews 4:16
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Before that verse is verse 13
13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
We want God’s grace, but we can only find his grace when we quit trying to cover our sins with hypocrisy.
Listen to what Jesus said of the Pharasees.
27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.
28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
Listen to what Jesus had to say to the church at Laodicea in Rev 3:17-19
17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
We need to treat our eyes so we can see our wretchedness and nakedness.
5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Adam and Eve thought their aprons were great. I am sure they were proud thinking no one will know.
Who were they trying to hide their loss of glory from? there were only 3 people. God, Adam and Eve.
Just remember, husband and wives and church members are constantly designing garments to cover their sins, the loss of the glory of God.
But lets continue to step #3.
Retreating into Separation
Retreating into Separation
8 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.
When we realize that our man made garments are not working, we hide.
Adam and Eve were not so comfortable now that God has come looking for them. The fig leaves are not enough.
Satan’s goal has been accomplished. Satan has shed Adam and Eve of the image of God and has driven a wedge between man and God.
Adam and Eve were afraid of God and now had a negative view of God which is exactly what happens when we allow sin into our life.
Remember faith.
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Sin causes us to see God differently.
2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, And your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
When we sin, we either repent or we rise up into greater indulgence in order to suppress the guilt and shame.
To not have sin bother or affect you, you have to believe 2 things.
There is No God -
2. There is No Judgment of God -
While we don’t have true statistics of suicide because sexual orientation is not data that is collected, what we do have is the statistics on thoughts or attempts of suicide of those living a life of sin.
Youth statistics:
LGBTQ+ youth are more than four times as likely to attempt suicide than their peers.
A 2024 Trevor Project survey found that 11% of gay youth and 10% of lesbian youth attempted suicide in the past year. This compares to 7% for cisgender straight youth.
For bisexual youth, the rate is higher. In 2019, 27% of bisexual youth surveyed attempted suicide, and 48% seriously considered it.
Adult statistics:
A 2021 analysis of data from the National Surveys on Drug Use and Health found that LGB adults were three to six times more likely than heterosexual adults to report suicide thoughts, plans, and attempts.
Among adult men, gay and bisexual individuals were found to be 2.1 to 2.98 times more likely to have a suicide-related event than heterosexual men.
The reason these numbers are so high, is that everyone knows there is a God. It is in our conscious. Also the fabric of the law of God is written in our heart and our conscious.
Therefore, they have to work through the guilt, they have to convince themself there will be no judgment.
Strange that they use the rainbow, the sign of covenant that God made with mankind not to destroy this earth ever again because of sin by a flood of water, as their flag.
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
God cannot and will not reward sin. However, God will forgive and cleanse sin if we will confess that sin rather than hide.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Are you going to repent or go deeper into sin and seperation from God?
