John 15:26-16:1
John 15:26-16:1
Jesus sends the Holy Spirit.
Jesus sends the Holy Spirit.
JTB said Jesus would baptize with the HS and fire.
The creed says He proceeds from the father and Son and is the giver of life.
Jesus said unless you are born of the Spirit, you don’t have life.
The Trinity is the collective name given to the three persons in God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The doctrine of the Trinity emerged because it was the best explanation of the whole scope of the biblical witness to the identity of God. The Bible clearly teaches that there is only one God (Deut 6:4; Isa 42:8; Jas 2:19). The Bible just as clearly teaches that the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Spirit is God. Each of them do things only God can do and receive the worship due to God alone.
…the word “God” means spiritual being.
…and uppercase “G” usually denotes specific deity worship by Israel…and the Christians
Jesus sends the Holy Spirit so we don’t stumble in our witness.

3) Satan (slander that produces fear)
fear of punishment (judgement)…so he gives us love and has victory over every power and dominion
The Holy Spirit brings conviction of sin so our souls don’t grow septic.
The Holy Spirit brings conviction of sin so our souls don’t grow septic.
Conviction - ἐλέγχω (elenchō). vb. to convict, rebuke, expose. Refers to rebuking or correcting an error, or to exposing something.
This is the usual Septuagint translation of יָכַח (yākaḥ, “to rebuke”). In the nt, it can refer to rebuking or reproving sin (e.g., Luke 3:19; 1 Tim 5:20) in order to correct people. It can also refer to legal conviction for wrongdoing (e.g., Jas 2:9) and to exposing things hidden by darkness (e.g., John 3:20) as a metaphor for revealing wrongdoing
Sin ignored will cause us to grow sceptic in our soul.
convincing and persuasion
The Holy Spirit convinces us of our righteousness so shame doesn’t become our identity.
The Holy Spirit convinces us of our righteousness so shame doesn’t become our identity.
Righteousness - δίκαιος (dikaios). adj. just, correct, righteous, innocent. The characteristic of following God’s law.
The Holy Spirit convinces us satan will be judged so we don’t live in fear because of his slander.
The Holy Spirit convinces us satan will be judged so we don’t live in fear because of his slander.
2920. κρίσις krisis, kree´-sis; decision—accusation, condemnation, damnation, judgment.
κρίσις (krisis). judgment, legal case. Refers to the process, event, or result of legal proceedings intended to evaluate punishment
Satan accuses and slanders.
1 John 3:19–24 (CSB)
19 This is how we will know that we belong to the truth and will reassure our hearts before him 20 whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows all things. 21 Dear friends, if our hearts don’t condemn us, we have confidence before God 22 and receive whatever we ask from him because we keep his commands and do what is pleasing in his sight. 23 Now this is his command: that we believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another as he commanded us. 24 The one who keeps his commands remains in him, and he in him. And the way we know that he remains in us is from the Spirit he has given us.
John 16:12-14
John 16:12-14
Jesus sends the Holy Spirit to guide us and speak truth to us.
Jesus sends the Holy Spirit to guide us and speak truth to us.
illus: My life has been one long workshop in listening to the guidance of HS.
He still speaks truth and it always is aligned with revelation and teaching of Jesus.
He breathed and inspired the Scriptures.
When I get stuck, I ask HS to reveal truth to me of a Scripture
he speaks to us and through us…but ultimately, he is revealing GOD to us in Scripture. Scripture is about Him.
John 16:19-24
John 16:19-24
Ultimately, the Holy Spirit connects us to Jesus, convinces us what Jesus did for us, and guides us to keep Jesus’ commands.
Ultimately, the Holy Spirit connects us to Jesus, convinces us what Jesus did for us, and guides us to keep Jesus’ commands.
Greatest sorrow is seperation from Jesus...the Holy Spirit reconnects us in union with Jesus, bringing joy. He’s where the Joy is.
Jesus is going to the father, to advocate for our righteousness, and the spirit connects us to that.
Every time Jesus says to ask “anything in His name” and it will be done, it’s in the context of us experiencing His presence and communion.
What is keeping you from experience rich communion with God?
Sin?
Shame?
Fear?
Ask the Holy Spirit to invade that space…
