Read verse 1-5
Verse 2) “And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God”
King Asa did what was right in the eyes of God and not what was right in mans eyes.
You see Mans eyes, see nothing wrong with worshiping and sacrificing to false and strange gods.
The world loves false religion, it loves it when people go to sacred groves and to high places and worship false gods.
a plurality of different contradictory religions is preached in our culture as “progress” and a good thing.
but King Asa looked at it with heavens eyes and he hated it as evil in his kingdom and he moved to tear it out by the roots.
we too need to look at the world with Gods eyes, we need to see sin for what it is, something God hates,
in verses 3,4 and 5 King Asa moves to remove the evil and suppress the false religions in his kingdom.
he takes away the altars of the strange gods.
he destroyed the high places...
he broke down the idols and images of the gods.
he cut down the sacred trees of the groves.
As Asa looked through his kingdom.....
We must look through our lives, homes and our church and cut down every abiding grove,
any place in our life's that are outside of Gods purpose and plan..
....is a high place, is a altar to a strange god.
this is what King Asa did, and it is what we must do.
Next we see in verse 4, he commands that all the inhabitants of Judah to
“seek the Lord God of their fathers and do the law and commandments”
the King essentially tells everyone living in his kingdom, you must seek and serve the lord!
AS Fathers we must do the same for our households.
everyone living under your authority men of God, your wives, your children, You are responsible to lead them to seek the Lord.
I have an example, earlier today Alaina played a joke on me, she said Jeremy, you have like 17 students for FBI, so I'm just not gonna take it.
i said um no mam, you are most certainly taking Faith Bible Institute.
she said, but i don't want to, and i said i don't care what you want to do, we are gonna go through it together and that's final.
at this point, I'm getting a lil grouchy,
I'm like we have been geeking out over faith Bible Institute for 4 weeks and suddenly you don't wanna do it.
she busts out laughing, saying off course I'm taking it, i just wanted to see what you'd say.
she added “besides you'd cry if i didn't take it” (shed be right lol)
like King Asa I am exited to lead my household to learn the law and commandments of God through FBI.
But its our responsibility men to make sure our families are faithfully in church.
Verse 5)” Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him”
Notice if you want to have a “quiet and peaceful kingdom...
if you want to be closer to God and more in his will and more full of the Holy Spirit...
...you cant be..... with your heart and home full of groves, high places and idols.
you must take things away, if you wish to gain and grow in your relationship with God.
You must break down the idols, cut down the groves, destroy the altars of strange gods aka repent of abiding sin that remains in you.
if we will do that, our hearts, home and church shall taste the quite peace of King Asa in verse 5...
Read Verse 6-8) And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest. 7 Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered. 8 And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valor.
Notice the order of King Asa in his ministry as king.
He seeks the Lord, he removes the sin and then he begins to serve God and build.
And that what we must do as a church, believe in Christ, remove the sin and build the Kingdom of God through the Local New Testament Church.
