Why isn’t God doing anything?

How can God use the wicked Babylonians in the old testament to exact justice and judgement on the people of Judah? How could a more wicked nation punish God’s people, even if they erred? There’s a similar question in the New Testament, how could God establish a Kingdom without a sword? How could God use the godless Romans to sprout and spread the Good News?

Just having come back from pilgrimage from Poland, I am 1/2 Canadian-Polish and 1/2 American-Mexican in my lineage. Both peoples, Poland and Mexico have had their share of struggle, especially for the sake of the Gospel. I learned how the Germans attacked Poland first in their conquest for a pure Germany and for control over much of Europe. I learned how after World War II the land was given over to the Soviets for governance. I learned that the Polish people could only use their Polish language inside of the Church, because the Soviets were doing their best to promote their communist ideology. Where are you God? Why aren’t you doing anything for your Church?!

Power, and love and self-control

Story about Fr. Juan dying and the late night and the next morning and how we don’t know what the other person is dealing with.

And not that we can know everything. And its not for me to go around telling everyone what I’m going through. The Lord has assigned me tasks different from yourself. What we do need is a bit of kindness, and self-control, seeing the humanity in the other as well as a deeper devotion to serving our Lord. We are disciples, being led, we are not orphans that are like that little chicken that goes around asking, “Are you my mother?” We know who our Father is, and we know who our Lord is. We go about constructing a Christian life, avoiding bad and seeing who God brings in our way and we respond to God’s invitation of love, whether it be our human enemy, we treat with love, never becoming ugly, or if its a challenge that our Lord is inviting us to pass through.

Sometimes, like with Habbakuk is saying, the Judeans, the Jews, were being taken off into exile, we can ask the question, “where are you, Lord?” “What’s wrong with your timing?” And God is never late. He sees what is happening. Our Lord invites us, not to be infants in our quest for heaven, but recognizing the power, what can come from one granule of faith, one mustard seed worth’s of faith, that comes to the disciples of God, Power and Love and Self-control. These are our super powers as disciples, and God invites us, not to play the role of the undignified pagan, but the dignified disciple who performs the tasks that the Lord has assigned each of us, who after serving the Lord all day, is invited to wait on the Lord in the evening time, and instead of the expectation that “I’ve done enough,” our response in front of the Lord is “I’m your unprofitable servant, anything good that I’ve done is because of your goodness that I have participated in, I’m just doing my job.” “I’m not a hero, I’m just a dude.” Or as St. Paul writes to a young Timothy, a bishop, “Bear your share with me the suffering that come from your preaching of the Gospel.” We can translate that as Christians, we each have a share of suffering to share in with Christ, or as it says in Colossians, “I am fulfilling what is lacking in the suffering of Christ.” What is left suffering? That of the Church.

St. Faustina and the Divine Mercy image

Today is her feast day, and we can sympathize with her that God asked her to begin a worldwide revolution/recognition/devotion/preaching on the mystery of God’s Divine Mercy and how much he loves His Church and how much He loves and beckons the sinner. This is an impossible task for a cloistered sister. So what did he do? He asked her to do tasks, draw my image, come pray with me, write about what I’m saying, tell other’s about my mercy, I want my Mercy proclaimed and adored in your convent. He asked her to do what was in her power to do. But it wasn’t her job to get the message out. God has his ways, He wanted her trust. The most severe block to my grace working in you is lack of trust! So, in God’s time, after the death of the dear sister, but now that the convent was effecting what God had asked the convent through Sr. Faustina. And what happened? A young man, who worked in a rock quarry would pass by this chapel and pray and got quite familiar with the message of mercy. The whole world didn’t know, but Cracow had heard about this mystic nun. This young man would become a priest and later a pope. God could see that, Sr. Faustina couldn’t. God moved this guy up the ranks of the hierarchy of the Church until he became pope, to become a pope of mercy and promulgated this devotion. Because Sr. Faustina was faithful to what God asked her, God saw to the final accomplishment. Do you understand how easy it is for God to work in the world?! That’s why, and infinite amount of love times a small little mustard seed ‘yes’ is still an infinited amount of love. God isn’t dependent on us, we are dependent on Him.

Lord, get us on your timing, get us on your plan, we are the disciples, you are the Father, teach us over and over again that we are not allowed to move in fear and cowardice, nor playing the victim when things don’t go as we’d hoped, but that you give us power from on high to bring heaven to earth, that you give us love, to conquer the hate that comes our way, and that you give us self-control to pause us before we act ugly ourselves as well as to move in patience using the power of mind with grace to make good decisions that are pleasing to the Lord as we choose heaven. We pray today as the gifts are brought up, “Accept these sacrifices, the holy mysteries, that we celebrate with dutiful service as we give thanks for your work of redemption in us.” Amen

¿Por qué Dios no hace nada?

¿Cómo puede Dios usar a los malvados babilonios del Antiguo Testamento para imponer justicia y juicio sobre el pueblo de Judá? ¿Cómo podría una nación más malvada castigar al pueblo de Dios, incluso si cometían errores? En eso encontramos la situación de Habacuc, luchando con el problema del mal y las maneras de Dios. Hay una pregunta similar en el Nuevo Testamento: ¿cómo puede Dios establecer un Reino sin espada? ¿Cómo puede Dios usar a los romanos impíos para propagar y difundir la Buena Nueva?

Acabo de regresar de una peregrinación desde Polonia. Soy mitad canadiense-polaco y mitad estadounidense-mexicano. Ambos pueblos, Polonia y México, han tenido sus propias luchas, especialmente por el Evangelio. Aprendí cómo los alemanes atacaron Polonia primero en su conquista para una Alemania pura y el control de gran parte de Europa. Aprendí cómo, después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, el territorio fue entregado a los soviéticos para su gobierno, por las fuerzas aliadas. Aprendí que el pueblo polaco solo podía usar su idioma dentro de la Iglesia, porque los soviéticos hacían todo lo posible por promover su ideología comunista y la cultura de Rusia. ¿Dónde estás, Dios? ¿Por qué no haces nada por tu Iglesia?

Fortaleza, amor y de moderación

Historia sobre la muerte del Padre Juan, la noche y la mañana siguiente, y cómo no sabemos por qué está pasando la otra persona.

Larga y triste noche

Mañana muy temprana por una mujer que perdió su hijo recién nacido, y lo sostuve.

En nuestro grupo de critica sobre una de mis episodias, mis encuentros con un paciente o otro, las otras personas en mi grupo eran tan grosera e innecesariamente crítica de mi.

Dije, {saben lo que ha pasado conmigo esta noche y hoy temprano}

{Guao, lo siento, no sabiámos.} Claro! No son Dios, no sabemos las luchas y sufrimientos y dificultades de nuestro vecino.

Y no es que podamos saberlo todo. Y no podemos contar a todo el mundo lo que estoy pasando. El Señor me ha asignado tareas diferentes a las tuyas. Lo que sí necesitamos es un poco de bondad y dominio propio, ver la humanidad en el otro, así como la fortaleza más profunda al servicio de nuestro Señor.

Somos discípulos guiados, no huérfanos como ese pajarito que anda preguntando: "¿Eres mi madre?". Sabemos quién es nuestro Padre y quién es nuestro Señor.

Construimos una vida cristiana, evitando el mal y viendo a quién Dios nos pone en el camino, y respondemos a la invitación de amor de Dios, ya sea a nuestro enemigo humano, lo tratamos con amor, nunca nos volvemos feos,

o si se trata de un desafío que nuestro Señor nos invita a superar.

A veces, como dice Habacuc, los judíos, que estaban siendo llevados al exilio, podemos preguntarnos: "¿Dónde estás, Señor?". "¿Qué te pasa con tu tiempo?". Y Dios nunca llega tarde. Él ve lo que sucede. Nuestro Señor nos invita a no ser infantes en nuestra búsqueda del cielo, sino a reconocer el poder que puede provenir de una pequeña fe, de una fe del tamaño de una semilla de mostaza, que llega a los discípulos de Dios: Poder, Amor y auto-control. Estos son nuestros superpoderes como discípulos, carismas del Espiritu Santo y Dios nos invita, no a actuar el papel del pagano, sino al discípulo digno que realiza las tareas que el Señor nos ha asignado a cada uno de nosotros, que después de servir al Señor todo el día, es invitado a esperar en el Señor durante la cena, y en lugar de la expectativa de "Ya he hecho suficiente", nuestra respuesta ante el Señor es "Soy tu siervo {inútil}, todo lo bueno que he hecho es por tu bondad en la que he participado, solo estoy haciendo mi trabajo". "No soy un héroe, solo soy un tipo". O como San Pablo escribe al joven Timoteo, obispo: "Comparta conmigo el sufrimiento que viene de tu predicación del Evangelio". Podemos traducir que, como cristianos, cada uno tiene una parte de sufrimiento que compartir con Cristo, o como dice Colosenses: "Estoy completando lo que falta en el sufrimiento de Cristo". ¿Qué sufrimiento queda? El de la Iglesia, el cuerpo místico de Cristo.

Santa Faustina y la imagen de la Divina Misericordia.

Hoy es su día, de Sor Faustina, y podemos simpatizar con ella, pues Dios le pidió que iniciara una revolución/devoción/predicación mundial sobre el misterio de la Divina Misericordia de Dios y cuánto ama a su Iglesia, y cuánto ama y llama al pecador.

Esta es una tarea imposible para una hermana de clausura. Entonces, ¿qué hizo? Le pidió que realizara tareas: dibuja mi imagen, orar conmigo, escribiera sobre lo que digo, hablara a otros de mi misericordia: «Quiero que mi Misericordia sea proclamada y adorada en su convento». Le pidió que hiciera lo que estuviera a su alcance.

Pero no era su trabajo difundir el mensaje. Dios tiene sus caminos; Él quería su confianza. ¡El mayor obstáculo para que mi gracia obre en ustedes es la falta de confianza!

Hija mío, todos tus pecados no han herido Mi Corazón tan dolorosamente como lo hace tu actual falta de confianza. ‘ entry 1486

Así que, en el tiempo de Dios, después de la muerte de la querida hermana, pero ahora que el convento estaba llevando lo que Dios le había pedido, ¿qué sucedió?

Un joven que trabajaba en una cantera de roca pasaba por esta capilla para rezar y se familiarizó con el mensaje de la misericordia. Todo el mundo lo desconocía, pero Cracovia había oído hablar de esta monja mística. Este joven se convertiría en sacerdote y luego en papa.

Dios lo veía, Sor Faustina, no. Dios lo elevó en la jerarquía de la Iglesia hasta convertirse en papa, en un papa de la misericordia y promulgó esta devoción. Gracias a que Sor Faustina fue fiel a lo que Dios le pidió, Dios se encargó del cumplimiento de la devoción.

¿Entienden lo fácil que es para Dios obrar en el mundo? Por eso, un amor infinito multiplicado por un pequeño «sí» de grano de mostaza sigue siendo un amor infinito. Dios no depende de nosotros, nosotros dependemos de Él.

{Señor, ponnos en tu tiempo, ponnos en tu plan. Somos los discípulos, tú eres el Padre. Enséñanos una y otra vez que no podemos actuar con miedo ni cobardía, ni hacernos las víctimas cuando las cosas no salen como esperábamos. Que nos des poder desde lo alto para traer el cielo a la tierra, que nos des amor para vencer el odio que nos acerca, y que nos des autocontrol y moderación para detenernos antes de actuar mal, pero actuar con paciencia, usando el poder de la mente con gracia, para hacer buenas decisiones que agraden al Señor al elegir el cielo.}

Oramos hoy al ofrecer las ofrendas: «Acepta estos sacrificios, los santos misterios, que celebramos con servicio {con deber} y te damos gracias por tu obra redentora en nosotros». Amén.
