If God answered all of Your Prayers Today….How would your life be different?
Would the world be Different?
This was the thought provoking question asked by the speaker for fall conference as I went down yesterday to spend some time there.
and I want you to keep those questions in mind as we go through today. as we begin the series called Why? Why did Jesus die? Why get baptized? Why do we have Doubts. These are all questions that will either be answered or better understood these next four weeks. Today we are going to tackle why we pray?
Point One: The Command
Point One: The Command
Jesus, gives us in his own words a license to be praying, If we look at Luke 11 we see that Jesus was praying and after he is done praying the Disciples ask him to teach them how to pray and Jesus lays out this Frame work. Can someone Read Luke 11:2–4 “He said to them, “Whenever you pray, say, Father, your name be honored as holy. Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyone in debt to us. And do not bring us into temptation.””
So some of might remember when I touched on Prayer a few weeks ago I want you guys to think about what is going on here Jesus is giving us things In each Verse of this to hold onto as we are praying,
The father is Glorified! Luke 11:2 “He said to them, “Whenever you pray, say, Father, your name be honored as holy. Your kingdom come.”
God will provide us with our needs should ask for them Luke 11:3 “Give us each day our daily bread.”
We need God’s forgiveness Luke 11:4 “And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyone in debt to us. And do not bring us into temptation.””
We ask for our sines to be forgiven but Jesus asks us to take it a stop further with the fact that He not only wants us to pray that for ourselves but for others as well that for those who wrong us we would be able to find it in ourselves to forgive them
And then finishes with the thought that God will deliver us from evil or temptation.
Point Two: The Purpose
Point Two: The Purpose
So now that Jesus has given us a framework of how we should pray maybe literally with our mouths but also figuratively with our hearts….Why would that be important what is the purpose behind that.
This model…. this focus on who we are to be as those who follow christ.
So How important is prayer. …….. What do you think
Its very Important, all over the course of the new testament we see why prayer is important.
