Things to Note:
Things to Note:
The wedding feast in Canna is a very apparent part of John 2.
This whole event mirriors Isaiah 63.
Jesus first miricle is turning water into wine, a very important thing to note.
Isaiah 63 is essentailly the prophet Isaiah having a vision about God returning to Jeruselam after vanquising the nations
Verse 1 of Isiah 63 has crimsoned (Red) garments, Identical to to Jesus garment mentioned in Revelation 19:13,15
The winepress is Symbolic is of Jesus Judging the nations (think further on this symbology and give your answers in the Discord section homework answers.
The Winepress also parralels Joel 3:13 ( Joel 3 is about the Lord judging then nations)
Only Jesus can tread the winepress of the nations and only He can vanquish sin and the Enemies plan.
This symbology is So strong throughout much of the old testament.
In Isaiah 63:4 we see the day of vengance and the year of redemption is the Lord’s alone.
Romans 12:19 “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.””
We know Vengance is the Lords alone.
2 Thessalonians 1:8 “in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.”
see also Luke 21:22 “for these are days of vengeance, to fulfill all that is written.”
Jesus makes it plain as day that vengence is at his second coming and redemption is for today (let today be the day of salvation)
This is one reason that Jesus’s first miricale of turning water into wine is so important as it is a symbol of things to come and also follows what is contained in the Old testament.
The other notable Reason this water into wine miricale is so important is that wine is a symbol of Joy (Judges 9:13 “But the vine said to them, ‘Shall I leave my wine that cheers God and men and go hold sway over the trees?’”
Psalm 104:15 “and wine to gladden the heart of man, oil to make his face shine and bread to strengthen man’s heart.”
This is made apparent in John 6, where Jesus spoke the sermon of “I AM the bread of life”
Also making it apparent that the worlds Joy will always run out or go dry, but Jesus, our lord who gives us eternal Joy that will never run out in his Eternal kingdom.
“on the Third day’ (John 2:10
means three days after Nathanael was called (John 1:45-51)
since the fourth day of week is recorded in john (John 1:19,29,35,43)
The wedding took place on “the seventh day” of this “New creation week”
John makes it so clear that Jesus was on a Divine schedule, doing the will of the Father.
Also Further paralleling the Genisis creation account.
The fact that Jesus turning water into wine is noted clearly as “the beggening of miracles” or “This, the first of his signs” (John 2:11) Dismantles the gnostic gosples and islamic doctrine that Jesus was doing mriricales as an infant or child.
