Jeremiah 9:23-24

Cross Refs: 1 Cor 1:31, 2 Cor 10:17, Phil 3:8

Everything in which a person might boast is worthless in the day of trouble if that person is not in right relationship with God. Compare

Knowing what Yahweh wants and doing it is the essence of true wisdom and proper worship. Yahweh wants His people to emulate Him in practicing kindness, justice, and righteousness. Israel had fundamentally failed to emulate these aspects of God’s character.

loving kindness—God’s mercy is put in the first and highest place, because without it we should flee from God in fear and despair.

judgment … righteousness—loving-kindness towards the godly; judgment towards the ungodly; righteousness the most perfect fairness in all cases [GROTIUS]. Faithfulness to His promises to preserve the godly, as well as stern execution of judgment on the ungodly, is included in “righteousness.”

Loving kindness = His mercy toward the godly
Judgement = toward the ungodly
Righteousness = the most perfect fairness in all places
How can this be? “So you’re saying that people who have murdered can be forgiven?” There’s no judgement in that - nor is there any righteousness in that - according to our minds.
BUT… Jesus is the answer to that dilemma.
