Raising the Widow’s Son

This woman whose household had been sustained only by Elijah’s presence and obedience suddenly faces tragedy. In her grief, she turns against Elijah, questioning both him and God.
But Elijah doesn’t retreat. He steps into the moment of calamity with bold faith. He brings the child to his own room, lays him before the Lord, and cries out to God on behalf of the boy.
Then Elijah does something extraordinary — he stretches himself over the child three times and prays boldly for his life to return.
And God listens! The boy is revived.

Scripture Connection

“The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” — James 5:16b, ESV
James specifically points to Elijah as an example of the power of prayer rooted in righteousness and faith. Elijah’s intercession becomes the evidence that God hears and responds to those who are aligned with His heart.
When the widow sees her son alive again, her faith is restored. She declares, “Now I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is truth.” (1 Kings 17:24)

Applications

God desires to act through our prayers — but our hearts must first be aligned with His will.
In moments of crisis, people will look to us for hope and answers. That’s when we must point them to God through prayer, not ourselves.
If our lives aren’t righteously aligned with God, our prayers lose power and our witness weakens.
Like Elijah, let your response to calamity be faith-fueled action and prayer.

Closing Thought

When we pray from a place of faith and righteousness, God moves. He still listens. He still raises what seems dead. And through that, others come to know that the word of the Lord is true.
Think about what you can start praying boldly for this week
Pray out- Pray for students to connect with God in prayer, cleanse themselves from unrighteousness, and alighn their hearts wit gods will so they too can be used like Elijah.
