Intro

the calling of Noah
illustration

A righteous family in an evil world

Nephilim continued
the Lord regretted- where does that put our understanding of an all knowing God?
how awful must the people have been that God decided to start over
“from the face” they have disregarded their relationship with God and so he will remove their relationship with his creation
wasted potential is the saddest thing

Establish my covenant

repeated multiple times at the end to make a point
a covenant between a greater and a lesser party often requires some sort of sign
God’s sign points upward, away from his creation
just like the other covenant story we looked at, God takes the burden of the binding relationship on himself because he knows the nature of his creation
and he loves us despite our selves
he still believes in our potential for good

Application

there are many flood stories throughout multiple cultures of the world
the rest of the world show humanity finding a way to trick or overcome their system of deity
our God shows mercy and grace and sorrow
our God makes promises and keeps them
our God humbles himself for no other reason than to show his love for his creation
you can wash away the evil in your life with water and only righteousness will remain
