You Have Authority

a. Standing in my full authority.
b. Everything in God is based in faith and love.
c. When He says he’s given us power, what does that mean?

Principle

God has given us authority to subdue the earth.

Ask Yourself

Are there areas in my life where I have not fully utilized my spiritual authority?

Memory Verse

Romans 8:37 “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”

Authority vs. Power

Many Christians confuse power (dunamis) and authority (exousia).
Power is the ability to act (like the strength of a car’s engine).
Authority is the right to act (like having a driver’s license).
The enemy may have power, but you have authority. For example: A police officer can stop a speeding truck — not because he’s stronger, but because he has legal authority behind him. Likewise, you stand backed by the authority of heaven.
1 John 4:4 “You are from God, little children, and you have conquered them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”

Where does our authority come from?

A. Christ is the Source of All Authority

Matthew 28:18 “Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.”
When Jesus made this declaration after His resurrection, He was revealing a powerful truth— that He now reigns with complete authority in both spiritual and natural realms.
“All authority” (Greek: exousia) means rightful power, jurisdiction, or the ability to act.
It signifies divine legal power - the same kind of authority a king or ruler exercises over his domain.
Before His resurrection, Jesus demonstrated authority over sickness, storms, sin, demons, and even death. But after the cross and resurrection, that authority became absolute, eternal, and universal—confirmed by His victory over death and grave (Philippians 2:9-11).

B. Jesus’ Authority Was Given by the Father

Jesus’ authority is not self-appointed—it was given to Him by God the Father.
John 5:26–27 “For just as the Father has life in himself, so also he has granted to the Son to have life in himself. And he has granted him the right to pass judgment, because he is the Son of Man.”
The Father bestowed authority upon the Son because of His obedience and victory over sin.
This shows a divine order—the authority of Jesus is legitimate because it is derived from God’s eternal plan of redemption

C. Christ Shares His Authority with Believers

After declaring that all authority was His, Jesus immediately commissioned His followers:
Matthew 28:19 “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,”
That word “therefore” is key. Because Jesus has all authority, He now sends His followers with that same delegated power to carry out His mission.
What does this mean for us?
When you share the gospel, you do so under His authority.
When you pray in Jesus name, you stand on His authority.
Side not just because we pray in His name that does not mean whatever it is we are praying for at that time will come to pass. God still has a will if what we may be praying for does not align with his will as the bible says we are praying amiss. But that's the beauty of the Holy Spirit he prays for us when we don't know what to pray for. He being God and connected to the Father and the Son knows the will and when he Intercedes on our behalf it is always on point.
When you resist the enemy, you operate with His backing.
The bible tells us is James 4:7 that resistance can only come by first submitting ourselves to God. What we sometimes may fail the see is that when a person receives Gospel that is in turn them submitting to God and out of that submission comes the ability to resist that devil in which we were previously slaves too.
It’s like a police officer directing traffic—the authority doesn’t come from his own strength, but from the government that stands behind him. Likewise, believers act under the authority of heaven, backed by the King of Kings

D. Our Authority is Rooted in Union with Christ

Apart from Christ we have no Authority
Ephesians 2:6 “He also raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavens in Christ Jesus,”
When you became a believer, you were spiritually united with Christ. His death became your death, His resurrection your resurrection, and His authority your shared inheritance.
Being “seated with Christ” means we have a position of victory and authority in the spiritual realm.
We don’t have to earn authority—it’s part of your identity as one who belongs to Him.
