On the cross Jesus cry out Luke 23:34 “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. And they cast lots to divide his garments.” Base on this test there was not a revival of multitudes coming to repentance and following Him but Luke mention that some were indifferent casting lots and dividing Jesus garments. The test doesn't record anyone confessing and grieving for what they were doing. None of them said “I am sorry” Psalm 38: 18. We don't see multitudes saying I have sin ageist you like David on Psalm 51. Neither sad for the sins of Israel sins like. This moment by the cross cause me to wonder , what is the benefit of being forgiven without repentance. So, what are the benefits for us to be forgiven without appropriating the benefits of repentance.
It is my best understanding at this moment Jesus was speaking more to his disciples there and for of disciples generations to come. He was speaking about forgiving even when we have not being ask for forgiveness. What forgiving produce in us as follower of Jesus and what are the benefits that we miss when we repent not for our sins. I want to consider all the benefits that are there in God forgiving us apart from eternal salvation and a relationship with Him. For this purpose I will examine the experience of David receiving the forgiveness from God when He was confronted with his sins. I hope this encourage you to take time to consider God forgiveness in corner of your secret heart and in your spirit.
I believe that we many times experience that forgives from God without taking the time let him work in us those corners of our secret heart and spirit because we too get distracted and don’t take time to mourn for our sins and with that we miss the reaches experience when we mourn for our sins. We to get into casting lots to … It is my hearts desire and prayer for the readers of this paper to take time to mourn for our sins. Encourage to stop a see what is going on because our sins. We can take time to mourn and sorrow for our individual sins, for the sins of our family and for the sins of our local church , nation, humanity and so on as the Spirit leads.
Mourning is when we reflect and sorrow on what we have done or what are we going through. Mourning for our sins is when we accept that we have encourage the wreaked and that he should not turn from his evil ways Ezekiel 13:22. In mourning and sorrow for our sins, we confess to God and others that we may be heal, James 5:16. We confess our iniquities and say I am sorry Psalm 38:18. In this type of sorrow for our sins we express and experience deep sadness for what we have done to God and others . It is the type of sorrow or grief that God leads to repentance 2 Corinthians 7:9. We come to see how far our sins have impact others and we repent and ask forgiveness. On this time of mourning we experience the contort of the lord deep in the secret places of our heart and spirit, Matthew 5:4 There is not better counfort that the one that comes from the Lord. His confort bilt us up and comes with the grace that empower us to go back to our battles. That was the type of grace that conforted David whan was conforted by the Lord. experience the same after knowing that his child will die because of his sins. An others wanted to stop him. Jesus said that those who mourn are bless and to themthe kingdom of God belongs. And one of those blessings are to know the counfort of the Lord. Lets examine what some of the riches that David got from taking time to mourn and sorrow for his sins who confronted by the Prophet Nathan.
David used the opportunity of Urias being in vulnerable in war to cover his sins so he can look as a righteous man taking care of a widow He wanted others to see him as the hero of the story of Urias and Basabe but he was the cause of the tragedy.
2 Samuel 11: 1 But David tarried at Jerusalem.
In time to be active in war David tarried, sit, abide, sit down, remain … He avoided his responsibilities and but the deceiver did not. He neglected to be active in war and stay passive at home. He did not consider his calling to war grater than sitting down at home. He delegated his responsibilities but did not remained watchful being present on the battle.
2 Samuel 11:2 “It happened, late one afternoon, when David arose from his couch and was walking on the roof of the king’s house, that he saw from the roof a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful.”
While was time for him to be in the battle he was in his couch? yes in his couch. Where am I when my responsibilities as a husband, as a father and as church member are calling? David was in his couch; where am I? Where am I in time of battle? When there is battle in the family I tend to run away but God actually calls me to stay and fight. Fight with all my hope in him. Fight but don't compromise my integrity. Fight waiting on him. Fight in fear on him but not fearing what man can do to me.
While David was walking on the roof he was encounter with the temptation and began to lust in the buty of a woman that wasn’t his wife. The scriptures are silence if this was the first time that he saw her from the roof but at list we know that he did not just move into a new residence. And he did not heard but saw her beauty.
When he was confronted with his sins he confessed and accepted.
He aske forgiveness
David was confronted with his sins by the prophet Samuel.
He accepted responsibility over his sin
Did not reject the message of the prophet
He did not kill the Prophet
He took time to mourn.
He growth in truth and wisdom
He went back to fight and wan. We go back to face the enemy not as victims but as victorious in Christ. Vivtorious in Christ we cast him aou, Victorious in Christ we sumit to God and resist the enemy who will flee from us and our familiees and our church.
But I believe that it is during this times of deep sadness because we have act in disobedient that we come to fill sorrow for what we have done. Probably during this time David sorrow for what he did to Urias and bethsabe. To his throne-the place where God put him to represent him-, to his army, to the name of God. Also he probably repented for not being in war and staying in bed then walking on the roof.
2 Corinthians 7:10
Time of sadness and sorrow for our sins. Is here where we experience God’s comfort.
Ezekiel 13:22
Psalm 38:18 “I confess my iniquity; I am sorry for my sin.”
Don’t be indifferent when God offers forgiveness don’t get distracted casting lots under the cross. Use the opportunity to get truth and wisdom. To restore joy in your life and strenth to go back to the battllee and take the crown of the enemy. Repentace is the entrance to experience in our lives the kingdom of God. Repentance is the first calling of Jesus when he started His ministry, we repent because we believe in the the gospel Mark 1:15. Repentance and believe are the two sides of a coin. We can’t separate this two because they are one. When we repent the secret of the kingdom Mark 4:11 are reveal to use causing us to seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, Matthew 6: 33
Jesus ask the Father to forgive us, but do we repent? At the end repentance is a gift of God and we can ask him to give us that gift so we can be forgiven and our life can turn around and go back to the battle with boldness.
Repentance is continuedly practice among the members of the kingdom of God at this present time and we are bless because we sorrow for our sins. part of the blessing is to experience God’s comfort.
When Nehemiah was sad was when the action began Nehemiah Nehemiah 2:2. He sa the conditions and destruction of Jerusalem that cause him sadness. Same for us when we see the destruction cause by our sins or others ‘ sins, we take time to sorrow, be sad and reflect. We hope in god’s mercy and forgiveness and seek oprtunities to rebilt to proteck those who we love and the local church. Sadness is importannt element to bounce back and impulce us to figt again. Ater sadness for our sins comes boldness as fruit of repentance. We see that in David for his sins and in Nehemiah for the sins of his people. When we are sad for sin we griff for sin and those one that have being affeted by our sins or our people sins. When we sin individualy, as a family or as church we should take time to griff for our sins and tose one who have been affected.
