Thoughts
What connection am I going to make regarding the weak willed women weighed down with sins, led on by various impulses, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Jannes and Jambres opposing Moses - connection with vs. 13. the word for imposter is also translated sorcerer. Plato mentions goes in company with pharmekeus and means an enchanter with drugs. Ties in 2:26 with the deceived “coming to their senses” - waking up from the drug induced stupor. Drugged seeds to catch birds.
The Outcome of the Wicked
Rejected in regard to the faith
They will not make further progress
Their folly is evident to all
Will proceed from bad to worse
Deceiving and being deceived
Difficult times will come, but...
For certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
connect Psalm 34
The face of the Lord is against evildoers, To cut off the memory of them from the earth.
Evil shall slay the wicked, And those who hate the righteous will be condemned. The Lord redeems the soul of His servants, And none of those who take refuge in Him will be condemned.
What do we do?
not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing.
Then quotes Psalm 34:12-16
Who is the man who desires life And loves length of days that he may see good? Keep your tongue from evil And your lips from speaking deceit. Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it. The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous And His ears are open to their cry. The face of the Lord is against evildoers, To cut off the memory of them from the earth.
But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed. And do not fear their intimidation, and do not be troubled, but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;
If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.
but if anyone suffers as a Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God in this name.
Therefore, those also who suffer according to the will of God shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right.
