Opening
One of the first things that we are taught as a Christian or a Follower of The Way or a Nazarene is the “Golden Rule” Do unto other as you would have them do unto you. Where is this found in scripture in Matthew 7:12
Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
We all know this or have been taught this but we are not always told how to live this out. Some treat it as if when we accept Messiah that it comes pre-programed in our head how we should treat one another, how we should even want to be treated ourselves. It is just one more example of the Torah or Instructions of God being separated from the Gospel of his son. This Statement by the Messiah is not just a “Golden Rule” it is instructions to live a Golden Life. Not that we should just quote this verse but that we should learn to live it out not just on Sunday or the Sabbath but every single day of our life.
in Matthew 7:13-14
“Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it.
“For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.
He connects this idea of The Golden rule to the narrow gate that leads to life to this Golden Rule. He makes a direct connection between this Golden Rule and your life to your day-to-day life until the end, turning the Golden Rule into the Golden Life.
Now how do we live this Golden Life. like we said earlier alot of people will tell you what this Golden Rule is but not how to live this Golden Life. Tonight we fix that issue starting with the Messiah Portion
We see the Messiah Yeshua in John 13:1-17 washing the feet of the disciples showing us one way that we show this Golden Life is being a servant to others in everyway possible. (expound)
Leadership through service. Do for others what you’d hope they’d do for you — even when you’re above them. Its not about titles and power but about service
One more of many other examples is when we see Yeshua Feeding the hungry, healing the sick and the blind. Expound
We also see the one of the greatest things that he did was to teach the narrow way. This is the greatest service you can provide is to present the Gospel to someone else in word and in action. Remember the Messiah tells us two things will make you great in the kingdom of heaven one Yeshua tells us Matthew 23:11-12
“But the greatest among you shall be your servant.
“Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.
He follows the same theme in Mark 9:35
Sitting down, He called the twelve and said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”
and in Matthew 20:26-28
“It is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant,
and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave;
just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
EXPOUD Story by story
So we see the Messiah telling us here that being a servent is what makes you great in the kingdom of heaven, but what else does he tell you will make you great in the kingdom of heaven we find this in Matthew 5:19-20
“Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
“For I say to you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
he tells us here that teaching and doing the commandments of God is what makes you great,
There are many ways to be a servant , feeding the poor, standing in the Gap for the oppressed, giving homes to those without when you can and many more, and all these we have been commanded by God to do within his law or torah , and so this is how we become the greatest servant but doing and teaching the commandments.
I cannot possible love my brother if I don't correct him and show him the correct way the messiah tells us this in Matthew 18:15
“If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother.
Now lets get into our Torah portion, we are going to go to the book of the law and learn Gods commandments, his character, and see how he instructs us to live This Golden Life,
“If a man opens a pit, or digs a pit and does not cover it over, and an ox or a donkey falls into it,
the owner of the pit shall make restitution; he shall give money to its owner, and the dead animal shall become his.
Expound on the verse and connect to today
Application: Golden Life = take responsibility for the harm your negligence causes.
“If you meet your enemy’s ox or his donkey wandering away, you shall surely return it to him.
“If you see the donkey of one who hates you lying helpless under its load, you shall refrain from leaving it to him, you shall surely release it with him.
Expound on the verse and connect to today
Application: Golden Life = help even those who don’t like you.
‘Now when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap to the very corners of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest.
‘Nor shall you glean your vineyard, nor shall you gather the fallen fruit of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the needy and for the stranger. I am the Lord your God.
Expound on the verse and connect to today
Application: Golden Life = generosity is built into daily living.
“When you build a new house, you shall make a parapet for your roof, so that you will not bring bloodguilt on your house if anyone falls from it.
Expound on the verse and connect to today (Connect Physical i.e. If a brother is allergic to something, or making sure your home or car is safe and spiritual if you brother has a weakness for a sin don’t put that brother in a position to fall into that sin.
Application: Golden Life = protect others proactively.
‘You shall not oppress your neighbor, nor rob him. The wages of a hired man are not to remain with you all night until morning.
Expound
Pay workers fairly and on time.
‘You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the sons of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself; I am the Lord.
Forgiveness is Golden Life.
Gods law shows us with the example of Christ and in his law how we live out The Golden Life.
The apostles also write to us about this,
The Apostle Paul says
Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.
For this, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
Expound on how if you love your neighbor you will do the things the law requires of you.
and our Overseer James tells us
If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well.
Expound
We must be not only hearers of The Golden Rules but Doers of The Golden life. The Messiah tells us that if we love him we will keep and do his commandments
James Tell us that faith without works is dead and that we should be doers of the law of liberty (Torah) and the Royal law (Golden rule)
And the Apostle John tells is to love not just in word or talk or deed and truth.
These laws are DOER training. They teach us how to act in love, not just talk about love.
They turn the Golden Rule into the Golden Life—practical righteousness.
Living them is the narrow way: harder than selfishness, but life-giving to everyone around.
Lets be doers and not hearers!
