Bible Passage: John 8:33–37, Galatians 3:26–29
Bible Passage: John 8:33–37, Galatians 3:26–29
1. Freedom Found in Christ
1. Freedom Found in Christ
John 8:33–37 “They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?” Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you.”
Jesus teaches the Pharisee's they are bound by sin. Those who practice sin is a slave to sin.
Would you rather be a slave or free?
The world will teach we are bound because we obey Jesus’s commands. That is how they will always see it until they know the truth of God’s word. We need to hold on to this truth everyday.
3. Clothed in Christ
3. Clothed in Christ
Galatians 3:26–27 “for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.”
We are clothed with Christ through faith when we are baptized, which means we put on the righteousness of Christ. When we are baptized is when we can identify as a Christian and walk in new life with the Holy Spirt.
Have any of you been baptized?
4. One Family, One Identity
4. One Family, One Identity
Galatians 3:28–29 “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.”
We learn here that when we are baptized into Christ we are all one in Christ Jesus. This is showing how people are added to the Church. We are all one so we shouldn't have partiality.
Also this shows that we are the offspring of Abraham, heirs according to promise. The Pharisee's aren't the offspring of Abraham because only those who are in Christ are.
Do we have any partiality in our heart?
We should respond to these passages by believing that we are free from sin if we don’t practice sin.
We also should be baptized so we can be clothed in Christ and have a new identity.
