Intro:
I was raised in a christian home…Pastors kid. I dont think Ive missed more than 10 sundays in my life. I made Jesus Lord over my life when I was 6, but as I grew I realized how big of a tall order that was…I started seeing sin after sin, and to me God seemed disant and confusing the older I got. My mom going through cancer, logan losing his leg, my sucidal tendancies, and new sinful trap of porn, I felt like a shell of a person. My christian walk was so confusing to me, because I focused so much on what I was doing or not doing, and by doing that, I slowly began to forget what Christ had accoplmished on my behalf.
Until I was a freshmen in college. by myself, trying to spend time with Jesus. In my daily reading I had come to mark 10, and I will never forget what happened next. The Lord reminded me of what he had done on my behalf.
1. Christ asks for All of you
1. Christ asks for All of you
Mark 10:21–22 “And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.”
Have you ever heard the “ask” of Jesus? Has someone told you before about this “Ask?”
What is Jesus here asking?
He sees the one area this rich one ruler wont let go of
God sees our hearts…He knows our hearts before we come to him, and if we come to him with hidden idols in our hearts, he will ask us to lay them down..
2. Christs ask is impossible on your own
2. Christs ask is impossible on your own
Why is it impossible?
We love so many things!
Some good
Family, friends, health, peace
And many evil
Lust, laziness, disobedience to parents, cheating, trivial sex outside of marriage, our image..
these things are idols, that keep us from believing whole heartedly in the truth of Christ
We are sinful and often ignorant of our sinfulness
Psalm 139:23 “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!”
But ultimately for many, like the rich young ruler, we are dead…
Ephesians 2:1 “And you were dead in the trespasses and sins”
this means, you are unable to believe, unless the Lord grants you faith in him!
Why does this matter?
Because unless you see the urgency of the ask, youll never pray with the fervencey that the hour requires…
Hebrews 5:7 “In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.”
But heres the hope beloved…
3. Christ has given all of himself, for all of you
3. Christ has given all of himself, for all of you
“For all things are possible with God.”
I read this in my dorm hallway and fell on my face with more joy than Ive ever experiecned in my life..
Do you struggle with evil desires and sinful pleasure? It may not be because your ‘lost’ but because you lost the joy of your salvation!
Psalm 51:12 “Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.”
Davids biggest problem was not that he slept with another mans wife, and ended up killing her husband to cover up his sin, no it was that he lost sight of the joy of his salvation!
Christ has done the impossible for you!
2 Corinthians 5:21 “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
Come to Christ, for the first time, or for the 100th
John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
What does he mean through me?
by faith
Romans 3:21–22 “But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction:”
