Romans 15:1-3
Romans 15:1-3
Who we are in the world
Waling with the World means to be a light and salt as jesus was
John 1:6
talks about John the baptist who was to bear witness of the light although he is not the light. To the true light Jesus
transforms us into “little Christians” and therefore “little lights”
Matthew 5: 13-16
when you take something as valuable as the kingdom of God, and the Gospel, you must share it, the transformation of Christ creates more light in you. So your job is to be transformed by God, push past fears and uncertainties and people liking you all the time
How to be light in your world.
Character : love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, kindess, all this is not for you. When you talk to people this is what they must meet.
Humility and forgiveness, empathy and love. no condemnation or judgment
Mark 2:14-17
Why do we give people Jesus? because those who are sick need physicians.
Congradulations you all are doctors now, you all are learning to be physician, life savers.
For Jesus came for us while we were lowly, while we were sick and still are therefore we offer someone the same cure that we got.
Not because its the “religious right answer” but because we have experience the cure for ourselves.
Lead those who follow you to the right things. You have your crowd, your friend group, but go and talk to the person who is a little out of community, who is a little anti social or even weird , you have to be intentional. Be open and prepared to talk to people you don’t usually associate with. Don’t be niche or elitest to one gorup of people and don’t put down others ( you can save a life or even change one)
important piece to this is not to look at them as lesser than, but to show them thorugh your actions and kindness towards them that they have a place in this world. Be leaders. Invite others into your place.
2. Jesus brought outliers into community, took the sick and bloody and made them whole so that they might be in community ( as believers our jobs are to take the hurt and broken and bring them into community as Jesus did, blessed are the poor in spirit
women with the issue of blood
the lepropracy, they were outcasts
the lay man parazlized at the pool
3.. Jesus was friends with sinners but he never partook of sin. He didn’t do taxes with Levi
3. I can’t do that, I can’t be uncomfortable, an idol that your generation has is comfort. What is comfortable is not always what is best. You have something to offer and you have something that God wants you to experience that is on the other side of discomfort or fear and anxiety that you can never taste if you don’t push yourself
4. This all matters because you are going to be friends of the world and you should be of it not in it. It doesn’t mean stop hanging with the friends you have now, its being a light to them
Guys we are playing for souls so it matters. We have the single most valuable gift and call on our lives and if we neve rgive it away wer are selfish
Call to Action: This is what I ask this week, next time pick the person or go talk to the person who is sitting alone, Include this person even if it feels uncomfortable at first.
Small group questions
Is there someone at school, church, or in your life that you know is often left out? What holds you back from reaching out to them?
2. Have you ever been that person on the outside? What did you need in that moment?
3. How can you be a light to your current friend group—without being judgmental or fake?
4. Have you ever felt pressure to join in sin to fit in? How did you respond—or how would you respond now?
