Sermon (P. Oscar)
Ephesians 5:31–33

31 As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.” 32 This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one. 33 So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

Marriage is a journey not a destination
My hope for you is that you discover what the journey is about
In the journey
We discover who we are today and who we are becoming. We help our spouse grow into their full potential
We struggle, and our character is developed
We also are present in every opportunity to celebrate
I want too give you some advice for the journey ahead
Ephesians 5:33

So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

The balance of a healthy marriage is Love and Respect
The instruction is first given to the man. To love his wife as he loves himself
Men are called to love well (sosciaty has gotten this backwards)
Men are also called to love himself (mental and emotional health) its your responsibility not your wives to care for your self
Then the scripture says (your not going to like this); But it says woman MUST respect your husband
Respect is not a suggestion its an instruction. You don’t have to respect, but its not going to work otherwise
You don’t have to be in agreement to respect. You can respectfully bring correction if needed
Men, you don’t demand respect, you earn respect
If you do this:
Your marriage will
Lazo - in Spanish (P. Oscar)
To honor Jonathans family I will conduct the following segment in Spanish. After this we will finish celebrating this element of the ceremony we will continue in English

12 Alguien que está solo, puede ser atacado y vencido, pero si son dos, se ponen de espalda con espalda y vencen;

Arras (P. Oscar)
I would like to as Morgan’s parents to join us with the gold coins we will use for the following portion of the ceremony
We use the following coins to be reminded of a couple of things:
God is the provider not man, we are the stewards of God’s provision
Everything Jonathan and Morgan have is now united and everything that will come will be as well
What we do with his provision. For that we go to the following scripture
Proverbs 3:9–10

9 Honor the LORD with your wealth

and with the best part of everything you produce.

10 Then he will fill your barns with grain,

and your vats will overflow with good wine.

Honor God with your wealth. Seek and practice what that means for you.
Prayer over their provision
I would like to ask Morgan’s parents to take the coins and take their seat
Rings
We are going to do something fun.
Morgan came up with a great idea to be able to include one of you in the ceremony
Someone is sitting on a chair that has the rings taped under the chair
Please check under your chair and if you find the rings, pleas join us
Vows and ring exchange
Jonathan vows
Morgan: Do you take Jonathan as your husband?
Jonathan, you may place the ring in her finger
Morgan’s vows
Jonathan: Do you take Morgan as your wife?
Morgan, you may place his ring in his finger
Blessing and prayer (P. Oscar)
I would like to invite our guest to stand on your feet to pray a blessing over Jonathan and Morgan
Blessing and prayer
Numbers 6:24–26

24 ‘May the LORD bless you

and protect you.

25 May the LORD smile on you

and be gracious to you.

26 May the LORD show you his favor

and give you his peace.’

We thank you for your presence
We ask that you unite and bless Jonathan and Morgan
Provide, protect and guide them
May your presence always be with them in Jesus name. Amen
