Kingdom Warfare
Building the Kingdom • Sermon • Submitted • Presented

· 9 viewsSpiritual warfare is real — but it’s not waged in fear. It’s waged from victory. The war was won at the cross, yet the battle still rages wherever the Kingdom of God advances into enemy territory. The believer’s struggle isn’t against people, but against spiritual powers opposing God’s purpose. God has armed us with divine weapons — His power, prayer, and love — and He’s covered us with divine protection — salvation, truth, righteousness, and peace. This is how the Church builds the Kingdom in a world at war.

In any war, misunderstanding the enemy leads to defeat.
History tells of battles lost not because the soldiers were weak, but because they were fighting the wrong opponent.
In the fog of war, some even turned their weapons on their own side — what military leaders call “friendly fire.”
And that’s exactly what happens in the Church today.
We argue, criticize, divide, and fight each other, while the real enemy — the devil — sits back and watches with delight.
Paul reminds us in Ephesians 6:12:
“We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
The enemy isn’t your neighbor.
It’s not your spouse.
It’s not your boss or your political opponent.
Our battle is spiritual.
And here’s the truth that changes everything:
👉 Kingdom Victory begins when you stop fighting the wrong enemy.
1 What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? 2 You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.
When we see clearly who we’re fighting, we can pick up the right weapons and stand in the right protection — fighting not for victory, but from it.

Before we can stand firm in spiritual warfare, we must understand where the battle takes place.
The greatest battlefield in your life isn’t around you — it’s within you.

The enemy may attack your circumstances, but his goal is to occupy your thoughts.

Victory comes when our thoughts come under the authority of Christ and are renewed by His Word.
Mental health, in the light of spiritual warfare, is the condition of the mind when it’s submitted to the truth of God and strengthened by His peace.
The enemy attacks your mind with lies. God defends it with truth.

📖 Biblical Framework:
The Mind Is a Battlefield
The Mind Is a Battlefield
4 For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. 5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,
3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.
The Mind Must Be Renewed
The Mind Must Be Renewed
2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Victory starts with a renewed way of thinking — not conformed to culture but aligned with Christ.
The Mind Should Be Guarded
The Mind Should Be Guarded
Rejoice in the Lord
Rejoice in the Lord
4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.
Pray to the Lord
Pray to the Lord
6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Find the Peace of God
Find the Peace of God
7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
God’s peace doesn’t remove conflict — it protects you within it.
The Mind Can Be Illuminated
The Mind Can Be Illuminated
130 The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
God’s Word is spiritual light — it drives out confusion and reveals truth.
The Mind of Christ
The Mind of Christ
16 “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
Through the Holy Spirit, believers are empowered to think, perceive, and discern with Christ’s perspective. We call this a biblical world view.
Illustration:
In battle, soldiers use night-vision goggles to see through darkness. Without them, they’re blind and vulnerable. God’s Word works the same way — it gives believers spiritual vision to see through the darkness and lies. Without it, even the strongest Christian can stumble in the dark.
John Bunyan in Prison (Author of The Pilgrim’s Progress)
John Bunyan was arrested in 1660 for preaching the gospel without a license and spent 12 years in Bedford Jail.
While locked away, he had no pulpit, no congregation, and very little food.
But he had his Bible.
He spent years reading and meditating on Scripture, filling his mind with the truth of God’s Word.
Out of that mental and spiritual battle came The Pilgrim’s Progress, one of the most influential Christian books ever written — a story birthed in the darkness of confinement but filled with the light of truth.
Illustration Point: When the mind is filled with the Word, even a prison cell can become a sanctuary.
Application:
Guard your mind.
Fill it with Scripture, not speculation.
Replace lies with truth and anxiety with worship.
When the enemy whispers, “You can’t,” the Word declares, “I can do all things through Christ.”
When he says, “You’re forgotten,” Scripture answers, “He will never leave you nor forsake you.”
The war for your mind is won one thought at a time — when every thought bows to Jesus Christ.
Transition:
You can’t win fighting the wrong enemy — and you can’t win using the wrong weapons. Once we know our enemy, we must take up the weapons God has given us.

The Power of Protection
The Power of Protection
14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
God not only gives us power and prayer — He covers us with divine protection. Each piece of armor is a weapon of defense and a symbol of truth.
The Belt of Truth — Holds everything together. When you walk in truth, lies lose their grip.
The Breastplate of Righteousness — Covers your heart. Righteousness is truth lived out.
The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace — Give stability and traction in battle. Peace shared with others.
The Shield of Faith — Blocks the flaming arrows of doubt and fear. Faith is trust in God’s character when you can’t see His plan.
The Helmet of Salvation — Protects your mind from the enemy’s accusations. You are sealed and secure in Christ.
The Sword of the Spirit — The Word of God — your only offensive weapon. It doesn’t just defend; it declares.
The Prayer in the Spirit — Let God guide your hearts and minds in the Spirit.
Illustration:
Roman soldiers slept in their armor during war campaigns. It wasn’t optional gear — it was survival. Likewise, believers can’t afford to leave home spiritually unarmed.
Application:
Every day, clothe yourself in God’s armor — truth in your words, righteousness in your choices, peace in your steps, faith in your outlook, and Scripture on your lips. You’re not dressing for comfort — you’re dressing for combat.
🧩 Conclusion
🧩 Conclusion
As we close today, let’s remember what we’ve learned:
We’re not in a playground — we’re in a battleground.
But the good news is, the war has already been won.
At the cross, Jesus stripped the enemy of his power. The resurrection declared that sin, death, and hell no longer hold authority over the children of God. The enemy may still roar, but he’s a defeated foe — roaring on borrowed time.
The enemy’s goal isn’t to destroy your body — it’s to distract your soul. He wants to keep your mind in confusion, your heart in fear, and your faith in retreat. But you were not made for retreat. You were made to stand.
God has equipped you —
• With His power to advance the Kingdom.
• With prayer to call heaven’s help.
• With protection to stand firm against every lie and attack.

Dissatisfaction – Identify the Battle: Where have you been fighting the wrong enemy?
Maybe you’ve been warring against people instead of praying for them.
Maybe you’ve been battling anxiety instead of surrendering it.
Maybe you’ve been trying to fix things in your own strength instead of resting in God’s.
Until we get dissatisfied with fighting the wrong war, we’ll never win the right one.
Vision – Imagine the Victory:
What would your life look like if your mind was anchored in truth, your heart guarded by peace, and your steps guided by faith?
Imagine what would happen in your home if the atmosphere of fear was replaced with prayer.
Imagine what would happen in our church if every believer started living like the victory is already ours.T
hat’s what the Kingdom looks like when it advances — not people who are avoiding battle, but people who are advancing in victory.
First Step – Walk It OutThis week, take one practical step into Kingdom warfare.
Replace one anxious thought with a Scripture of truth.
Spend five minutes a day in intentional prayer over one area of spiritual attack.
Speak peace into one relationship that’s been under strain.
Don’t just hear the sermon — live it.

As we prepare to respond, I want to speak to two groups of people — those who have never surrendered to Jesus, and those who have, but have been fighting battles in their own strength.
1️⃣ For Those Who Don’t Know Christ
1️⃣ For Those Who Don’t Know Christ
You’ve been fighting a war you were never designed to win alone.
Sin, shame, and spiritual darkness are enemies too powerful for human effort — but not too powerful for the cross.
When Jesus died and rose again, He didn’t just win His own victory — He won yours.
Today, you can step out of darkness and into His light. You can lay down your weapons of self-defense and find peace in His grace.
Salvation isn’t about getting better — it’s about surrendering to the One who already won.
Come today. Let Jesus forgive your sin, fill you with His Spirit, and give you His armor for the battles ahead.
“If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” – John 8:36
Freedom starts when you stop fighting against God and start fighting with Him.
2️⃣ For Believers Who Are Battle-Weary
2️⃣ For Believers Who Are Battle-Weary
Maybe you’ve been walking through a storm — emotionally, mentally, spiritually.
You’re tired.
You’ve been fighting for peace, but not from peace.
You’ve been wrestling in your own strength, but not resting in His.
Today, the Lord says, “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.”
It’s time to pick your armor back up.
It’s time to reclaim the ground the enemy stole.
It’s time to pray again, believe again, and stand again.
If you’re under mental or emotional attack, if you’ve been battling fear, depression, confusion, or anxiety — this altar is your battlefield.
Final Charge
Final Charge
As you come forward to pray — whether you’re surrendering your life to Christ or surrendering your battle to Him — remember this truth that defines us as Kingdom people:
Victory begins when you stop fighting the wrong enemy.
Because in Jesus Christ, the war is already won.
