Introduction: Standing Firm When Faith Is Tested
Every generation faces moments when obedience to God collides with the expectations of culture. Daniel 6 reminds us that faithfulness is not proven when it’s easy—it’s proven when it costs us something.
By this point in the book, Daniel is an elderly man—probably in his 80s—having served faithfully through multiple kings and empires. Yet once again, his devotion to God is put on trial. The world around him has changed, but Daniel has not.
The question for us is the same: Will we stay faithful when the world turns against our faith?
1. The Plot Against Daniel – Jealousy of the Faithful (v. 1–9)

“Daniel distinguished himself above the administrators and satraps because he had an extraordinary spirit, so the king planned to set him over the whole realm.” – Daniel 6:3 (CSB)

Daniel’s faithfulness did not go unnoticed. His integrity made him excellent in his work, and his excellence made others envious.
Faithfulness to God will often stir jealousy in those who compromise.Daniel didn’t climb the ladder of success through manipulation—he did it through integrity. But his integrity exposed the corruption of others.

Proverbs 29:27 (CSB) says, “One who is upright in his conduct is detestable to the wicked.”

Application:When you walk uprightly, expect resistance. Your integrity
When you walk uprightly, expect resistance. Your integrity convicts others of their dishonesty. Yet God uses that integrity as a testimony of light in dark places.

“The administrators and satraps… could find no charge or corruption, for he was trustworthy, and no negligence or corruption was found in him.” – Daniel 6:4 (CSB)

Unable to find fault in Daniel’s life, they turned to his faith. They convinced King Darius to sign a law that no one could pray to any god or man except the king for thirty days.
They convinced King Darius to sign a law that no one could pray to any god or man except the king for thirty days.
This was political manipulation wrapped in false loyalty. They knew Daniel would not bend his knees to any man.
Lesson:When the world can’t find fault in your conduct, it will attack your convictions.

Application:Faithfulness to God may cost us favor with the world, but it never costs us God’s presence.

A. Daniel’s Faithful Routine (v. 10)
“When Daniel learned that the document had been signed, he went into his house… three times a day he got down on his knees, prayed, and gave thanks to his God, just as he had done before.” – Daniel 6:10 (CSB)
“When Daniel learned that the document had been signed, he went into his house… three times a day he got down on his knees, prayed, and gave thanks to his God, just as he had done before.” – Daniel 6:10 (CSB)
Daniel didn’t protest the law, panic in fear, or compromise his faith. He simply kept doing what he had
He simply kept doing what he had always done—he prayed.
Faith that stands firm is faith that stands consistent. The key phrase: “just as he had done before.”

Application:Build spiritual habits before the storm comes. The furnace and the lions will test you—but your faith disciplines will sustain you.

The conspirators caught Daniel in the act of faithfulness. They reported him to the king, who realized too late that he had been manipulated.
Darius spent the night trying to rescue Daniel, but the law was irreversible.
Observation:Even earthly kings are limited, but our God is not.

Even Darius saw Daniel’s faithfulness and hoped in Daniel’s God.When the world sees consistency in you, it may eventually recognize the God you serve.

Faithful living preaches louder than fearful words.
That night, the king couldn’t sleep—but Daniel could. He rested peacefully among lions because he trusted in the Lion of Judah.

Daniel wasn’t saved because of his position, but because of his relationship.God honored his integrity with divine intervention.

The lions that represented Daniel’s doom became the backdrop of God’s glory.

Daniel 6 ties beautifully into our series theme. In a world that mocks holiness and tempts believers to conform, Daniel shows us what
In a world that mocks holiness and tempts believers to conform, Daniel shows us what faithful living looks like:
Faithfulness under pressure (he refused to compromise).
Faithfulness in prayer (he refused to stop communing with God).
Faithfulness through persecution (he trusted God even in danger).
Daniel’s faith didn’t remove the lions—but it did remove their power.
James 1:12 (CSB) — “Blessed is the one who endures trials, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”
