Title: Keep Hope Alive
Thought: It Will Happen
Topic: Moving forward In Faithfulness
Teaching: Gods Faithfulness to Fulfill his promise
1 And Moses went and spake these words unto all Israel.
2 And he said unto them, I am an hundred and twenty years old this day; I can no more go out and come in: also the Lord hath said unto me, Thou shalt not go over this Jordan.
3 The Lord thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the Lord hath said.
4 And the Lord shall do unto them as he did to Sihon and to Og, kings of the Amorites, and unto the land of them, whom he destroyed.
5 And the Lord shall give them up before your face, that ye may do unto them according unto all the commandments which I have commanded you.
6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
Story Start
The other day my daughter showed us the picture she took for her school yearbook; this prompted my wife to pull up old pictures and videos from back when Lanyah was just a cute adorable little baby. The one thing that’s evident is that my baby, is no longer a baby, she has now transitioned into becoming a teenage girl.
Story Setup
When we dropped my daughter off at college, I realized she had transitioned from that little girl, running around the living room, jumping on the couch pretending she was the lion king, reciting every part word for word. These are the times when I’m reminded that this life is full of transitions that bring about change.
Story Shift
Transition is the process of change in form, or condition. The word simply describes change that happens over time. The one thing we all come to learn about life is that nothing stays the same. Everyone here has gone through many changes and transition since you came into this world, and since you came to Christ.
Story Significance
A transition is happening in our scripture text this morning, God is preparing the children of Israel to receive the land flowing with milk and Honey that he promised to Abraham’s descendants long ago. However just before they come into the land, Moses tells the people there’s going to be a transition in leadership.
Sermon Sentence:
No matter what transition you go through you can expect God to keep his promise to you
No matter what transition you go through, God is always with you…
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have the end of the world. Amen.
commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto Hope is the expectation of God to do what he promised…
35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
Sermon Saying:
In this life we transition and change but God remains the Same…
6 For I am the Lord, I change not; Therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
Blessing Paragraph
Every Transition for Christians brings us closer to Christ ...
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
Problem Paragraph
Some transitions we go through are hard to deal with, change comes with heartache and pain…
Challenge Paragraph
The challenge is holding on to Hope when things are Hard, and know that God is still with you
The Ultimate Promise
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Background:
In the scripture text as Moses is preparing the people to cross the Jordan river into the land that God promised to give them, Moses makes a stunning announcement, the man they have been following for the last forty years, tells them, he’s not going over the Jordan with them, and there will be a transition in leadership.
Moses said I’m old and I can’t lead you anymore, Joshua is going to lead you guys over the Jordan into the promise land. I’m sure the people where shocked by this news, they knew Moses had a connection to God, that Moses could get a prayer through, when Moses cried out, God listen and responded to him.
The people are probably wondering if they are ever going to make it to the promised land, but Moses reminds them, I’m not going with you, but God is, Moses said the only one you need to be worried about being with you it’s not me, it’s not Joshua, it’s God. He’s going to make sure that you receive what has been promised.
