The 7 Desires

Message Intro:

What does it mean to be heard and Understood?

Samantha’s response to my Dad’s heart condition
She cared about me

God want us to talk to him

Wisdom Lit
Psalm 34:17 “17 The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles.”
Proverbs 15:29 “29 The Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayers of the righteous.”
Prophets
Jeremiah 29:12–13 “12 In those days when you pray, I will listen. 13 If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.”
Isaiah 65:24 “24 I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers!”
God is able to meet our needs without us asking him but he cares about our heart feeling heard
Prayer sounds so simple

Why is prying to God so hard?

What you heard:
Latter
Don’t bother me
That’s a stupid thing to think
2. How you were talked to
Advice
Teach

Signs you don’t feel heard and understood.

Speak differently

Raise your voice / Talk louder
People who scream desperately want to be heard
If that is you - ask yourself does would this person hearing you really help?
Talk quickly (could be nerves)
Parents didn’t who wouldn’t give time of day
Repeating over and over
Case building communicating like a court of law
Listing lots of examples over and over
Defend/Defensive yourself
Covering all the bases
Good at talking

Sin and shame have created breakdowns in relationships

What Do We Do?

Dealing with People

hurt people trying to communicate
Yelling
Speed talking
Repeating
Case Building
When this happens listen. = Love
Listing to their heart and feelings.
Don’t pick it up and carry it
Don’t shut it down

Dealing with Ourselves

God hardwired you be heard and understood.

Your feelings matter to God
They are not god - they are given by God

Getting your need to be heard and understood met

3 things:

1. Cry out to Jesus

The last Miracle in Marks gospel.
Mark 10:46–52 “46 Then they reached Jericho, and as Jesus and his disciples left town, a large crowd followed him. A blind beggar named Bartimaeus (son of Timaeus) was sitting beside the road. 47 When Bartimaeus heard that Jesus of Nazareth was nearby, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 “Be quiet!” many of the people yelled at him. But he only shouted louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49 When Jesus heard him, he stopped and said, “Tell him to come here.” So they called the blind man. “Cheer up,” they said. “Come on, he’s calling you!” 50 Bartimaeus threw aside his coat, jumped up, and came to Jesus. 51 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked. “My Rabbi,” the blind man said, “I want to see!” 52 And Jesus said to him, “Go, for your faith has healed you.” Instantly the man could see, and he followed Jesus down the road.”
Yelling
People are silencing him because they don’t understand him.
They don’t what its like to be that desperate for Jesus
Jesus asks Bartimaeus because he wants to hear him.
If you have not been heard start talking to Jesus

The Bible shows how much God wants to hear us

Psalm 10:17 “17 Lord, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them.”
Psalm 102:17 “17 He will listen to the prayers of the destitute. He will not reject their pleas.”
John 9:31 “31 We know that God doesn’t listen to sinners, but he is ready to hear those who worship him and do his will.”
But I have asked and he hasn’t done.…
There is a difference here between the depths of our hearts and results

2. Spiritual Listening

Spirit empowerment
What is the spirit brining to the surface
If you never listen you don’t know if you have been heard
Hear what God says.
What does He say —
When you have self talk - ask yourself who told you that?
Find truths from God and keep them in your back pocket.
1 John 5:14–15 “14 And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. 15 And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for.”
Hebrews 4:16 “16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”
But I have asked and he hasn’t done.…
There is a difference here between the depths of our hearts and results
Jesus prioritizes the heart not results
His ways are not our ways
He may NOT give you what you want, but He will give you what is best.
He heard you and wants what’s best.
Cry out to Jesus
Listen to Jesus
Jesus heard the Blind man & He wants to hear you.
