Luke 24:24-32
Luke 24:24-32
introduction: There is no greater joy in bible study then when it is OPENED (understood) and we see Jesus at the center of it each page. In our effort to deepen our study of the word of God we should study to understand each scripture in light of who Jesus is and what he has done. Bible study’s problem is usually found within our sinful distracted understanding. This problem is solved when we study with Christ at the center of our attention, and focal point of our study. This results in a passionate pursuit of Jesus form verse to verse. Where we see Him in one chapter and pursue him to the next. This is the relationship we ought to have with the Living Word of God
Slow of heart
Slow of heart
Slow of Heart
Not stupid or incapable
These Jewish men were raised on scripture memorization
Memorization isn’t understanding
The had all the pieces but didn’t put them in the right places.
Here they are after the resurrection of Jesus and are walking sad Luke 24: 17-24
Jesus recognizes that all the things spoken of in the OT. each sacrifice and promise was filed in memory but had no thought behind it
It is good to know scripture and to teach it to your children from a young age, but seek understanding as they grow
Concerning Jesus (Christocentric Study)
Concerning Jesus (Christocentric Study)
Jesus is essence says “wasn’t this the plan”
Luke 24:27 “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.”
The bible is inspired so that we may know the gospel and our need for it
Everything we read and learn of it goes through these filters:
where is Jesus
How did Jesus fulfill this
What doe this teach Jesus promised
Finding Jesus on every page brings the disconnected historical accounts into focus. What was blurry becomes clear
This is what happened to the men as Jesus showed them where he fit in the accounts of the OT Prophets
A Heart on Fire
A Heart on Fire
The Child of God the sees Jesus on every page has a heart on fire
Luke 24:32 “And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?”
this brings us to cherish our time in the word as it is time with Jesus
This brings us the boldness to live out what we’ve been shown in study knowing we continually follow him as we grow in His word
This give us the Joy we need to make our study not just a necessity of memorization but a hungry plea for Jesus to meet us on the pages of His Word
