1 John 1:5–10 “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
1 John 1:5 “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.”
This wasn’t just a story from anyone, this is what they hear from HIM
Every one of us should be declaring it to your friends! If it has changed your life why wouldn’t you want it for others?
“God is light”
Light in the Bible has many meaning
purity
truth
knowledge
prosperity
happiness
He is infinitely happy, with nothing to make him miserable. He is infinitely true, never stating or countenancing error; he is blessed in all his ways, never knowing the darkness of disappointment and adversity.
Psalm 27:1 “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
Psalm 36:9 “For with thee is the fountain of life: In thy light shall we see light.”
Isaiah 60:1 “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, And the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.”
Isaiah 60:3 “And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, And kings to the brightness of thy rising.”
John 8:12 “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
John 12:36 “While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.”
John 12:46 “I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.”
“and in him is no darkness at all”
Them emphasis here was to make sure no mistakes were made about it, it is a perfect light!!
1 John 1:6 “If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:”
It doesn’t matter what you tell me, the pastor, your parents if you’re living in darkness you do not have fellowship with the father!
Profession without possession is a spiritual recession.
You will never grow in Christ unless you get honest with others and yourself about where you are right now in your Christian walk!
1 John 1:7 “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
WE need to walk in the light so we can all have fellowship on with another!
1 John 1:8 “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”
Though you may be saved and set free from the penalty of sin does not mean you are sinless!!
No one will be perfectly sinless until this mortal shall put on immortality and this corruption shall put on incorruption.
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Thank God for this verse
THIS WAS WRITTEN TO CHRISTIANS
people who were already saved and forgiven
This verse is for us to come clean to God, so we can have a clear conscience. Not for him to save us “again”
1 John 1:10 “If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
In order to be saved in the first place you need to understand and know that you are a sinner.
If you have not yet come to terms with you being a sinner then you have not yet been saved.
You must first realize you are lost before you can be found
You must first realize you are a sinner before you can be saved!
