Be an Example

Teachers are called to be examples to the flock.
1 Corinthians 11:1 “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.”
Teachers are called to practice what they teach.
See Romans 2:21-24...
Teachers must be on guard against all hypocrisy.
Matthew 23:15 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel across sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell as yourselves.”

Devote Yourself to Teaching

Paul goes to great lengths to show young Timothy the importance of his teaching ministry. Look at the words that he uses to urge Timothy to a greater faithfulness.
Teachers must spend time in study and preparation.
2 Timothy 2:15 “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”
Teachers must spend time on developing their craft.
2 Timothy 1:6 “For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands,”
Teachers must fill their minds and hearts with the Word of God.
Joshua 1:8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
Ezra 7:10 “For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel.”

Persist in the Ministry

Teachers will be judged with greater strictness.
James 3:1 “Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.”
Teachers must care for the flock and teach the whole counsel of God.
See Acts 20:17-32...
Teachers must not let anything distract them from their task.
See Acts 6:1-4...
