Genesis 12:1–4 ESV
1 Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. 2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” 4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.
They had left their homeland and settled in a new place called Haran...this is not significant unless you understand about their land.
The lived in a dark place as far as the spirituality of their land. Terah, Abram’s dad was an idol make and they worshiped as pagans.
But as far as coming up in an agrarian society...you could live in no better place than the fertile crescent.
This place called Ur was right on the Euphrates river and right between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers.
In essence, they may be in the middle east, but don’t think dessert.
His father took his family/descendants and headed north to a place called Haran and settled there.
It was still pretty descent. Still right on the Euphrates River.
