Have you ever met someone who was just wrong, and yet they were so convinced that they were in the right? I need to confess that I don’t do this hardly ever, but on Thursday, I went out and shared the gospel with people on the street downtown Hutchinson. I met this girl name River. She was a self-proclaimed paganist, she was actively living in sin, and believed in a made up Greek God named Oden. Throughout my conversation with her, she became angry and full of hate. She even said a couple of times something to the effect of, “I don’t care about God. I love what I am doing. I will not stop. And if I am going to hell, then I am excited to go because I will NEVER change who I am.”
In some ways, our text today reminds me of my interaction with her. River heard the truth, and refused to believe. In the same way, Jesus healed a man on the Sabbath, the religious leaders became angry because Jesus claimed that he was equal with God. So because of that, the Jews
Jesus is defending himself against the Jews. Instead of reviling against them, He takes the time to respond to them and explain to them his relationship with the Father. This explanation is for the purpose of mercy and giving the Jews a chance to repent and believe in Him. So with that, let’s look at the relationship between God the Father and God the Son.

Know that Jesus is God

The Father does something = The Son does that same thing. You cannot separate them.
The Father loves the Son —> And shows Him all that he is doing.
What does it mean that the Father shows Jesus all that he is doing? How much does the Father do? Like everything! And Jesus knows it all. Can any one person understand or know all that God is doing? No. How could you know that? Only if you are God.
The Father will show Jesus greater works than healing the man on the Sabbath to do so that the people will marvel or be amazed. Jesus says that just like the Father can raise people from the dead, the Son can also raise people from the dead. Does Jesus raise people from the dead?
Lazarus
The Centurion’s Son in Luke 7
Jairus’s daughter in Luke 8
The Father has even given all judgment to the Son. Why?
So that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father.
What does this mean? The reason why the Father has done all these things for Jesus is so that all will honor just as they honor the Father. Does anyone else deserve honor like the Father? No. Only God. So what does that make Jesus? God.
It is not enough to believe that Jesus is just a good teacher, or a good person. He must be God.
Why all of these things?

Believe that Jesus is God and have eternal life!

The words of Jesus, are the words of God. When you believe, that is to put your whole trust in Jesus, you will have eternal life. Specifically to this context, Jesus is speaking about the fact that He is God. If you do not believe that Jesus is God, you cannot be saved. If Jesus is anything other than God, he can not save you. So he must be.

What are your options?

The Fountain of Youth example. For hundreds of years, people have been talking about this secret place. The reality is, there is no need for a fountain of youth because all people will be raised from the dead and live forever.
It is not enough to marvel or be amazed at Jesus. If all you do is say, “woah! That was cool!” about what Jesus did, chances are you like the stories of Jesus because you like to be entertained. Instead, put the full weight of your trust in Jesus.
Verses 25-29 give you two options.
Jesus says that everyone will be raised from the dead, whether you put your trust in Jesus or not.
Those who have done good to eternal life.
Not good deeds. There is no mention of deeds in our text. The good referred to here is trusting in Jesus.
Those who have done evil to judgement.
The evil Jesus is speaking about here is the sin of not believing.
