Excellent — here is the final sermon in your 5-part series, “The Day God Cleaned House: What the Bible Really Says About Sin and Sacred Space.” This message completes the arc of the series by showing how the cleansing work of Christ’s blood not only redeems humanity but restores the divine order of heaven and earth, reuniting God’s family—both celestial and human—under His rule.

Sermon 5: The Day God Cleaned House — How the Blood of Christ Restored Heaven’s Council

Primary Texts

Hebrews 9:23–24 (ESV)
“Thus it was necessary for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these rites, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf.”
Revelation 5:9–10 (ESV)
“And they sang a new song, saying, ‘Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.’”

Opening Prayer

Lord Almighty, the Holy One enthroned above the cherubim, You have cleansed heaven and earth through the blood of Your Son. Open our hearts to understand that redemption is not only about forgiveness—it’s about restoration. You have reordered creation, reconvened heaven’s council, and invited Your people to share in Your rule. May Your Spirit awaken us to live as Your priests and partners in the world You are reclaiming. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Abstract

This sermon brings the entire theology of blood and sacred space to its climax: God has cleansed His cosmic household. The rebellion of heaven’s sons and humanity’s sin had polluted both realms, disrupting divine order. But through His death and resurrection, Jesus purged heaven’s sanctuary, overthrew rebellious powers, and restored the unity of God’s family. The blood of Christ did not merely wash individual sinners—it reset creation’s governance, preparing the world for a new divine council composed of glorified humans. When the church gathers, it participates in that heavenly meeting, representing the will of the enthroned King on earth. Redemption, therefore, is not escape—it’s enthronement.

Sermon Outline (25 Minutes)

Point 1 – Sin Contaminated Heaven and Earth (Genesis 3:6; Deuteronomy 32:8–9; Psalm 82:1–2)

Sin was not just a human issue—it was a cosmic one. From the garden to Babel, rebellion spread among both humanity and the heavenly host. The divine council that once ruled with justice was fractured by corruption.
Expanded Explanation: Genesis 3 shows sin entering the human realm; Genesis 6 and Deuteronomy 32 show rebellion entering the divine realm. Spiritual beings (bene elohim) who were meant to govern nations justly led them into idolatry. Psalm 82 depicts God’s courtroom, where He rebukes these rebellious sons: “How long will you judge unjustly?” The contamination was not dirt—it was defilement of divine order. Heaven’s sacred space was tainted by disloyalty; the earth by violence.
Application: We must see sin as more than personal failure—it’s a pollution of God’s creation order. Every act of injustice, pride, or deceit disrupts God’s intended harmony. But here’s the hope: God refuses to abandon His house to filth. He cleanses, restores, and reclaims what belongs to Him.

Point 2 – The Cross Was God’s Cosmic Cleansing (Colossians 1:19–20; Hebrews 9:23)

When Christ shed His blood, it was more than a transaction for human guilt—it was a cosmic purification. His sacrifice cleansed heaven’s temple and drove out the powers that corrupted it.
Expanded Explanation: Colossians 1:20 declares that through the blood of the cross, God reconciled “all things, whether on earth or in heaven.” The rebellion that began in Eden and spread through the heavens met its end at Calvary. Hebrews 9:23 says even “the heavenly things” required purification. This means Christ’s death affected spiritual reality itself—He restored the very order of heaven’s council. His blood didn’t just forgive—it disinfected.
Application: When you plead the blood of Jesus, you’re invoking the cleansing power that reached the throne room of God. The cross is heaven’s sanitation system, removing every trace of sin’s contamination. You are not merely saved—you are made clean enough to stand where angels fear to tread.

Point 3 – Christ Restored the Divine Council and Seated Believers Within It (Ephesians 2:6; Revelation 3:21)

After purging heaven, Christ ascended to the Father’s right hand and seated believers with Him in heavenly places. God’s family council was reconstituted—not of rebellious gods, but of redeemed humans.
Expanded Explanation: In the ancient world, kings ruled with their council seated beside them. Ephesians 2:6 reveals that God has already “raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” The church is not waiting to join the council—it already participates in it. Revelation 3:21 confirms this: “The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne.” The divine council is now composed of glorified image-bearers who reign under Christ, the true Son.
Application: Your prayers, worship, and obedience are not small earthly acts—they are heavenly decrees spoken through redeemed members of God’s court. When you intercede for your family, you are participating in heaven’s governance. When you stand against evil, you act as one enthroned with Christ.

Point 4 – The Cleansed Council Will Reign Forever (Revelation 22:3–5; Daniel 7:27)

History ends where it began: heaven and earth united, sacred space restored, and God’s family ruling together. The blood of Christ has ensured a permanent dwelling where no impurity can enter again.
Expanded Explanation: Revelation 22:3–5 describes the final scene: “No longer will there be anything accursed… they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.” The curse of contamination is gone forever. The new creation is not merely Eden restored—it is Eden expanded, a cosmic temple filled with God’s glory. Daniel 7:27 foresees this when “the kingdom and the dominion… shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High.” God’s council family will rule without rebellion or decay.
Application: You are destined for more than survival—you are destined for stewardship. Your life today is preparation for that eternal reign. Keep your heart pure, your worship holy, and your mission focused, for the King has cleaned house and made room for His loyal ones.

Closing Prayer

Sovereign Lord, we thank You that through Christ’s blood, You have cleansed heaven and earth. You have dethroned darkness and enthroned Your saints. Make us faithful members of Your council, wise in judgment, pure in devotion, and bold in witness. May our lives reflect Your holiness until the day heaven and earth are one. Through Jesus Christ, the Lamb who cleansed all things, amen.
